Hotel Principe, hotel in Modena

Hotel Principe is a large building set close to Modena railway station and a pleasant 10-minute walk from the town centre with its cathedral, museums and old churches.

Every time I choose this hotel in Modena. Nice place, some rooms have a very nice view to the church. Well organised breakfast. Close to the beautiful park, a 15 minutes to the city centre by walking. Close to the central railway station. There are parking places in the city blue zone, free of charge for the guests, even thou sometimes it is not easy to find the place.

FAQs about hotels in Modena

The Sophistication Behind Supercars

A foodie heaven, affluent Modena is also a petrolhead paradise, as Italy’s most prestigious supercars are crafted in and around the city. The three-pronged Maserati logo proudly marks their Modena headquarters, while a museum in Cittanova to the west houses vintage vehicles.

Lamborghini produce their distinctive V8s in Sant’Agata Bolognese, while the most famous of them all – Ferrari – has turned the nearby town of Maranello red. The church bells even ring every time their F1 team wins!

Enzo Ferrari’s former home is now a Modena museum, while a theatre is named after another famous resident: Luciano Pavarotti. The most famous export is balsamic vinegar and Villa San Donnino offers wonderful tastings, and local tortellini and lambrusco are served up in pavement cafes and bars.

UNESCO World Heritage-listed Piazza Grande is a cobbled square part-lined with the porticoed town hall. Opposite is the 12th-century, white-marble cathedral which is overlooked by the Ghirlandina belltower.

A few streets away, stately Palazzo Ducale is home to the Italian Military Academy, but was once inhabited by the powerful Este family after they fled Ferrara. Some of their Italian art collection is displayed in the Museum Palace, alongside archaeological collections. Nearby Modena accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels and cheap guest houses by the train station.

This was a really lovely city with an extensive pedestrian town centre. The Duomo is a highlight, the covered market is charming (it re-opens in the evening with a variety of what seem like pop-up restaurants) and the very grand town hall was worth a visit. You are spoilt for choice for restaurants - we liked Stallo Pomodoro and Da Danilo for dinner- both had outside terraces, and for lunch, Aldina, a very traditional no frills trattoria on the first floor near the market. Blums, a prize-winning gelateria, served the best ice cream I had on this trip.

Really a treat, Modena deserves to be better known.

Really a treat, Modena deserves to be better known. A beautiful and walkable city, with magnificent food, good and variegated shops, and did I mention the magnificent food? The Galleria Estense is an excellent museum (with all information in Italian and English). Opening hours for churches are a bit intransparent (and not always kept), but the city is definitely worth a trip!

San Gamenino is a great option if you need a place to rest, sleep and breakfast in a clean, quiet location and get a chance to explore the beautiful town of Modena. Although the hotel and its furnishings (tiles, furniture) are getting a little elderly, the basics have been refreshed (new paint on the walls, new, clean curtains) and it is perfectly adequate for the moderate price charged. Breakfast is a definite plus: it is wholesome, complete and beautifullly presented! (eggs, ham, cheese, cereals, cakes, bread, butter, jam, yoghurts...)

This is a quaint B&B. It is well appointed. The beds are comfortable. The linens are amazing. The setting is incredible. This was my favorite place to stay in all of Italy. The breakfast was so delicious and included Paolos fantastic balsamic vinegar. In addition everything was fresh and from the region. Excellent location to explore Modena and the apartment was very comfortable. Very well maintained and had everything we needed including driving and parking permits. The host provided a permit that allowed us to drive in the limited traffic zone which was very much needed. It enabled us to drop off our luggage and then park our car with the parking permit provided. Excellent attention to everything that made our arrival and departure simple and hassle free.

Very convenient for a family traveling with a dog. A lot of outdoor space and room was on ground floor opening on the garden. Nice owners. The location is outside of Modena center, about 15 minutes drive, which was fine for us as we were looking for a place with outdoor space. Just to flag that you need a car to stay there and travel around easily, there is plenty of outdoor parking available in the property.

Really liked this hotel. Loved the room, modern and comfortable. Staff very nice; we used the efficient valet parking service. Breakfast was good, although some of the American style hot food options looked a little sad, which is fine since I prefer to stick to the traditional Italian fare.
