Travellers who stayed in Bologna near Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) have said good things about Hotel EMI, Hotel Del Borgo and Villa Aretusi.
World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered better than in this medieval gem.
Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look out for ragú on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savour their food, so a meal can last for hours.
Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops can be found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage listed. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views over this red-roofed city.
The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square are the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088 and home to the city’s best museums.
Bologna accommodation on Booking.com ranges from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.
Bologna is walkable and historically important. Start at the city's tourist information center in Piazza Maggiore for a great map.
Moreover, it is a foodie-haven--all kinds of places to eat--from food courts to all sorts of restaurants.

We took a local train to visit the Marconi Museum. Very small intimate museum right on the site where the first wireless message was sent. Nice to get out of town and see how regular everyday people live in Italy.

Our favorite place is Centro Commerciale Centronova and...
Our favorite place is Centro Commerciale Centronova and Trattoria La Montanara.
We ate great burgers in the restaurant and traditional Bolognese cuisine in the trattoria.
In Bologna we traveled by bus and car. Both options are NOT problematic. Of course the small streets are difficult, but it's not a problem. You just have to be aware of Italian driving, sometimes it's stupid and thoughtless.
I would recommend not going to the great basilica of San Petronio. The staff is terrible, they have stupid rules - for example take off your hat, and it's raining and cold outside!!! A huge basilica, but inside it is very dark and nothing can be seen. Almost all niches are closed and not illuminated. There was an uncle who wouldn't let you into the only open niche - it was for those praying!!!! And there is no one!!!! We have been to many places and cathedrals and basilicas, but nothing like this. The basilica itself remains unfinished. There are very few drawings, and nothing can be seen from the darkness. Pure waste of time. There are churches and cathedrals nearby - San Pietro Cathedral, it's very beautiful and everything can be photographed with flash.

Bologna is a great city escape for 3-4 days.
Bologna is a great city escape for 3-4 days. You can easily walk through the old streets of the town, which are full of architectural treasures. There are more than enough places to sample all the delicacies of Tuscany, such as cold cuts & cheeses, pasta dishes and of course a great aperitivo to end your day.

Lovely walking there. Great architecture.
Lovely walking there. Great architecture. Many km of mostly pretty porticoes. Lovely squares. Good galleries and museums. Good food from market stalls and restaurants. Easy to visit nearby towns by train. We will be back.
Our flight got canceled so we arrived way later than planned. We e-mailed the hotel and they responded promptly that they would be open and waiting for us. This was a welcome relief close to midnight. The staff was very, very friendly and accomodating. I love the comfort of the bed and bedding and my partner reveled in the amenities provided in the bathroom. Breakfast was probably the best we had in our entire Italian adventure. I'd highly recommend this hotel for a one-night stay (only 15 minutes or less from Bologna airport).
This property was perfectly located for a visit to Bologna. A 10min walk from the station and you are there, and it’s only 10 more minutes to get to the centre of town. The property was modern, new, exceptionally clean and had everything we needed! It was such a great value for money, and everything was exceptional. The included breakfast was delicious, and the staff and owner were incredibly friendly and accommodating, giving us as many suggestions and recommendations for sight seeing as we needed. Our best stay in Italy!
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the owner (Alessandro) was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend Milleventi Apartments for anyone visiting downtown of Bologna.
I have stayed at many of hotels/apartments but this was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. Alessandro was very hospitable and there for every need of mine.
He helped us find a taxi at 3:00 am. and then he contacted us if we were arriving at the airport.
Alessandro thank you so much.
Luckily, I booked this place, because the reception was open very late, with a friendly guy there to greet me and check me in! Flight was delayed 6 hours (Thanks, RyanAir) and I arrived at the airport at 02:30! There were taxis available (thank God!) at BLQ at that hour! Arrived at the hotel at 03:00. The guy was kind and caring, and personable, and the check-in was fast and easy. I will definitely stay there again. Also, a 6 minute walk to Bologna Centrale train station! Very cute hotel - loved the eclectic decor.
Location wise it’s ok about 15 mins to city centre, 25 mins to Bologna Centrale. The studio room is quite small but everything you need is there. I cooked eggs for breakfast and I love the coffee machine! There were also some snacks on the fridge and on the cupboard. It’s actually my first holiday using an apartment as I prefer to stay in a hotel, but when I was looking for a place to stay at that time, there were only 5 hotels available and majority are bed and breakfast/studio type so I decided to give it a try
We lived in apartment 202 at via Milazzo, 12, on the fifth floor. It is close to the train station Bologna Centrale and 15-20 minutes walk from the main square of the old town - Piazza Maggiore. Keys must be picked up at the hotel Astoria itself, a few blocks away. The apartments are quite comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need: a small stove, refrigerator, microwave, kettle, a minimum set of dishes. The beds are located away from the kitchen. The bathroom is big. Bed linen and towels are excellent.
We really enjoyed our time here. Close to the airport, close to the centre and also the train station. Staff were all friendly and the reception desk was very helpful. Breakfast was very good with a wide range of offerings. Room was very spacious with good air conditioning. The restaurant is very good, we normally avoid eating in hotels but we ended up having dinner twice here. I stayed in another hotel in Bologna closer to the station and it was very old and tired inside, not the case here.
We had to pick up our friends, arrived in airport Bologna, and then drive further down to Toskana.
We already stayed in this hotel several years ago and found it very conveniently located fir our needs. Also we were very pleased by hospitality and comfort. Therefore this time we had no questions where to spend a night.
Room was very comfortable and calm although hotel is situated between airport and highway. It is surrounded by trees and makes feeling your vacation has been started.
The room we had was great for the family to come back and relax in after a day out exploring. The breakfast was as expected having been coming to Italy for a number of years. a good selection and tasty.
Hotel is right next to the train station which is good when coming on the monorail from airport or as we did going day trips out with the town.
a lovely walk about 15 mins up to the main centre.
staff were also great.
Well located hotel in the heart of Bologna. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was spacious and comfortable. Good air conditioning and shutters made the room cool during some very hot weather.
Good breakfast and coffee made to order. Great service from staff. The rooftop bar was good - drinks were a little on the expensive side but they were excellent and the complimentary snacks were the best we got in Italy.
Perla is actually an "albergo". This means that if you expect the amenities of a hotel you will be disappointed. It is in an old house in the historical centre of Bologna. The rooms however were clean as was the bathroom. A stained bed-cover was changed immediately. The windows are noise-proof. The personnel was very friendly and helpful. It is located very near to all the sights of Bologna.
This is not our first stay at Millennhotel. The staff is very friendly and I just love the room, it's really nice and cosy. The shower is really spacious ( it's a big plus when you are a big girl :) ) and the room is always clean. It is in the heart of Bologna you are close to everything within walking distance. Thank you for the hospitality, you will definitely see us next year :)
The location was convenient when arriving from Bologna Central station or by monorail from the airport. A short walk from the city centre in a nice quiet area with cafes and a supermarket nearby. The apartment was clean and comfortable. We were welcomed by Jacopo who arrived very promptly to give us the keys. The air conditioning was much appreciated in the hot weather.
The hotel is located in the heart of Bologna, close to all the attractions, restaurants, bars and just a 10 minutes walk to the train station. The room was spacious, very clean but with a basic furniture. Although our room was above a busy street, it was very quiet. A very nice surprise was to find out that we also had a breakfast included in the room price 😊
Perfect location. Spotless. Rooms good size for airport hotel. Great value…
Most exceptional was a real restaurant in an airport hotel. Really excellent cuisine , linen tablecloth, exceptionally efficient staff even when slammed during the dinner hour….
A wonderful surprise for the last night of our Italy trip….
Recently renovated, very nice hotel in the convenient location.
10-15 mins walk to the old town of Bologna and train station.
Personel friendly and helpful, can leave bags before or after check-in.
Very clean and nicely decoreated bathroom that is not so common in Italy.
Comfortable beds.
The hotel’s location is excellent, we could reach the centre of Bologna and the central station of Bologna easily by walk. The room was super clean and nice. The breakfast was served in a café bar near the hotel, it was a coffee and a croissant, which were both delicious. :)
Location, bus outside every ten minutes to the city centre, nice and quiet when we returned from the hustle and bustle. Nice pool. Got a room upgrade which was great. Lovely hotel would definitely recommend and if we go back to bologna we would stay here 100%
Easy walk from Bologna Centrale and from the city center. Great dining all around the hotel. Staff was very friendly. Room was comfortable. Definitely would book again. Thank you to everyone that works at the hotel :)
Very decent upscale hotel, walking distance to Bologna Centrale with easy access to airport train. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast buffet.
