It is about a 15 min walk to the Centraal Station, 7 mins to Dam Square, 15 mins to Anne Frank’s House and 10 to the Rijksmuseum. It is surrounded by cafes and restaurants of every cuisine. The staff are very friendly and pleasant. The room was clean. I liked the very steep, winding, narrow stairs. The hotel has a lot of character and charm. But perhaps the stairs are not suitable for older people, children and those with mobility issues. The beds are extremely comfortable. We slept so well.

If you take a detour from the main shopping strip leading to Dam Square, there are a number of smaller shops for the more particular shopper

My favourite was what looked like a small musical instrument shop, but turned out to be huge. There was also a retro computer game shop that was a little expensive but had an amazing array of consoles and games.

Stay off the beaten track and away from places like Dam Square and the Red Light District. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants close to the canals. Look for where the local people go to eat and take recommendations from your hotel. Always worth checking out the restaurants in the Internet before you go and always try to book
