Excellent location. Very short walk from the bus interchange and Yubatake.
The boss and staff are very helpful in assisting us with the luggage forwarding service by TA Q Bin. Greatly appreciate their help on this!
Staff have been attentive and helpful. The staff speak English, hence it also made communication easier for us.
There is washing machine and heater available which we are able to wash our clothing. We originally thought we have to bring the clothing to a laundry shop.
2 onsen baths are available for private use within the hotel.

The hotel just cancel our booking without contact us personally, they simply email me which I had missed as it ended up in the junk box. We drove 2 hours from Nagano and when we arrived in the dark, they just leave a message at the door saying the the property is closed due water pump issue! It took us a long time to find another accommodation in Kusatsu as nearly all of them require advance booking!
Boasting indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths, 4 swimming pools and saunas, Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Village features various activities on site.

Me and my friends stayed at this lovely ryokan for one night. We enjoyed our spacious room and the private and public Onsen hot springs of the hotel. The hotel is located in a nice central spot which is great for exploring Kusatsu Onsen. The food and services were good.

Of the three most popular onsen towns in Gunma, Kusatsu is definitely the most accessible and easiest to wander through. It has an almost amusement park-like quality and is very convenient. There are not many dining options so make sure to book a hotel with breakfast and dinner.

I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel.
I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel. It is nestled in the mountains, a gorgeous drive from Tokyo (If you have the time, drive!) Many places to drop in for a foot soak, lots of little shops and restaurants. Prepare to wait in the busy season (which I believe is the fall and winter). This time we stayed in a traditional Japanese hotel with tatami and only futons for sleeping- being from the US, this made the trip especially fun but make sure you are ok with getting up and down from the floor. There are less people who speak English than in the major cities. But if you are comfortable pointing and smiling and trying google translate, it is a beautiful place to visit. Note that people with limited mobility may find the town difficult to navigate (steps and steep hills). Better for adults, but there is a little tropical zoo nearby and the onsen demonstration is fun.

Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter.
Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter. We went in February and it was snowing. Family love it so much that we’re planning to visit for next winter. A lot of private hot spring and delicious food. We had kaiseki for breakfast and dinner at our ryokan. Definitely worth the trip and ain’t too far from Tokyo. Stay a night if possible.

If you want to experience the quintessential Japanese, hot-spring town in the mountains then, Kusatsu is the place for you. It takes a while to get there with the train and bus but if you have the time then I would recommend it. The culture surrounding hot-springs is unique to the Japanese and there is no better place to experience it.
Get early there for a day trip because most buses coming down to the train station stop running around 7 PM.

Kusatsu is a great place for natural hotsprings.
Kusatsu is a great place for natural hotsprings. Great Onsen. Its best to go for relaxation purpose and take a dip in the hotsprings. The places to look out for are 1) Yubatake (center of the town) - Please do visit in the evenings as well when the lights turn ON and make it a beautiful view.
2) Sainokawara Park and Open air Onsen. This is a must visit place to spend good walk in the park and then visit Open air Onsen
JR Bus station is very close to center - Yubatake. So it's just a 5mins walk and also there are round trip bus by JR to all sightseeing spots. Most of the resorts offer shuttle bus service also; so I recommend to check with your resort before booking. This really helped us.
The food is next best thing in Kusatsu. However if you are Vegetarian like us you might find difficulty to find good restaurants. However, there are a couple of Italian restaurants that offer good pasta and pizza which is loaded with vegetables.
One major thing to note is the Bus service from Kusatsu Bus station to Nagonahara Kusatsuguchi. The bus service is not regular; so please check it and plan your outbound trip.

The Yubatake area is picturesque and has many nearby shops with Japanese treats you can take out and eat/drink while sitting and enjoying the ambiance of Yubatake. Lots of traditional Japanese buildings, walkable streets with shops selling souvenirs and Japanese treats. Be sure to take the 10min walk from Yubatake thru Sainokawahara Koen (Park) to the large outdoor hot spring bath Sainokawhara Rotenburo.
Soumeian was absolutely amazing! Everything was perfect. The rooms are huge with so much space. There is a private onsen to use and everything is so clean. The staff are exquisite and pay so much attention to detail. We don't speak Japanese but the staff made sure to do their best to communicate with us. The food provided was so tasty and huge portions.. Everything about the hotel is beautiful.
I would recommend Soumeian in a heartbeat to anyone staying in Kusatsu. It's honestly a bargain for what you get.
Everything was good. The Staff, Location, the room, the onsen, breakfast...all are wonderful. I have problem with my heavy luggage but the nice young female staff helped me. The hotel is right across Kusatsu bus terminal (less then 1 minute walk), and there is a 2-minutes-walk shortcut to Yubatake. There is a convenience store right in front and a restaurant next door. There is no shower or bathtub in the toilet in guest-room. But who needs those when you have an onsen with showering area.
This place is amazing! Lovely owner and staff. The owner owns a cafe down the road which serves superb coffee from Melbourne! The owner speaks fluent english and the staff can converse in english too!
Breakfast is amazing and the private onsen is the best! I have no other review besides compliments 🙏🏻
Thank you for picking and dropping us off in the ski resort! We will see you again next winter! Arigatou gozaimasu ~~~
A very quiet and cute place! It really felt like a country side inn, so homey and tranquil. So peaceful and the rooms were quite spacious for the price.
I wanted a Japanese style room for the experience and it met my expectations! There is also an onsen to enjoy. Since it runs all night, even if you chose the public bath, you'll find yourself alone at some point! The baths and rooms came with many toiletries as well.
Comfortable bed
Room is beautifully decorated
I booked for a shared bathroom at i still got a toilet in my room
4 beautiful private onsens
Welcome sweets and green tea
Unlimited cofee and even flavored water
Close to the bus station and a short walk to Yubatake and all the center of Kusatsu onsen
They have different shampoos and conditioner and we can use when we go onsen bathing
Bathroom has skin care.
The hotel did a great job in managing a small temporary issue with onsens. My stay at Konoha / Tokinoniwa has been a great and memorable experience. Meals were great value for the money and they even translated the menu (just) for me. Staff at reception spoke excellent English, the other staff members less well, but we could understand each other.
Very convenient location. In front of Kusatsu Bus Terminal, short walk to Yubatake and shops and restaurants.
The room we stayed was very clean and comfortable. The Onsen isn’t big but nice and cozy size. I enjoyed all to myself as there was no one else in the bath twice I had been.
Was one of the very few properties on my travel dates on the affordable side from the mean price . Staff was pleasant and polite, the onsen inside hotel was nice, balancing the public baths in the village. Room was wide and staff made my bed in the evening. Great tea in the room!
Loved our stay here! The room had plenty of space, bath was beautiful, beds were comfy, and a nintendo was included for fun!! Loved the private onsens!!! Yummy breakfast and dinner. The staff was so friendly and nice! Public/common area had a lot of fun/entertaining things.
Me and my friends stayed at this lovely ryokan for one night. We enjoyed our spacious room and the private and public Onsen hot springs of the hotel. The hotel is located in a nice central spot which is great for exploring Kusatsu Onsen. The food and services were good.
Kind and attentive host, tasteful furnishing, everywhere seems the ownership spirit of the 5 generations (as we learned). English fluently spoken. The famous Kusatsu hot water in the house onsen. 1st class futon beds. Could not choose any better.
Excellent for the price! It's a bit out the way compared to Kusatsu center, so you may have to walk a bit. The hostess gave me a nice map to the onsens. It was not completely full when I went, but if it were it might feel a bit crowded.
A lovely spacious room in a very conveniently located hotel. Well worth making a booking for a private open air onsen bath - the space on the rooftop was so nice. Breakfast set was amazing and beautifully presented.
Both the hotel and the room were absolutely beautiful. All facilities were clean and the onsen was really great as-well. The hotel is a short walk from the centre so it’s easy to look around. Definitely recommend!
Loved everything about the hotel, it felt as though we had the place to ourselves. Onsen area was the highlight. Room spacious and lovely hot tub in the bathroom area. Loved the welcome treats and coffee station
Very kind hotel manager doing a lot of the work. The room was also very very clean! I liked the cute towel baskets we could take with us to the onsen. The breakfast was very balanced and delicious!
