We had a warm welcome with tea/coffee offered upon arrival. During the stay the host was very approachable for any questions we had. It’s conveniently located and walking distance to the entrance of Adams Peak. Nice breakfast is served, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood. Everything was great! We were given the most luxurious room they had with a great view of the tea plantations and the city. The room was clean, cozy, hot water and good Wi-Fi. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was bitten by a leech when I was walking around the plantations. I was immediately helped. Be sure to wear closed shoes if you are going to walk around the plantations.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it felt like staying in a cozy home. After moving from hotel to hotel, it felt so nice to come into a warm and comfortable home with a cozy bed. And I liked that dinner and breakfast takes place at a big family table with other guests, once again it felt cozy. But above all, I have to give credit to the incredible service we received. I arrived with a very bad cold, slight fever, etc. Soon after we arrived and he saw I was sick, Madhavan came to our room with a steaming bowl with ginger and lime leaves and some ayurvedic medicine to help with my congestion. He repeated the same action twice more during our stay, and was so so kind, bringing me tea constantly, asking how I was, etc. All the employees at the hotel were above and beyond with their service and attention, and Madhavan's kindness with me will be remembered long after our trip. Oh - and they have a gorgeous swing in the garden where you can lounge about and read on. If you're tired of staying in impersonal hostals and are looking for a cozy stay in a big comfortable house, look no further :)

The team of Mr. Janarthan was extremely polite and kind, satisfying all spoken and unspoken wishes of their guests. The hotel is situated in a beautiful area, with breath-taking views. The room was very spacious and convenient. Every day some treat was left in the room - either fruits or sweets. The food in the restaurant is very tasty. There is a nice spa - Geetha, thank you for the nice and relaxing time.

The people hosting the guest house were definitely my highlight. Roshan, his wife and daughter were so friendly and helpful and always had a smile on their face! Roshan even dropped me at the railway station on the last day, which was super nice! The breakfast was very delicious and enough. The beds were super comfortable and the room very spacious. There is a shortcut to get into the city that‘s why the location of the guest house is also fine. Would definitely come back next time!

We had a truly wonderful stay at Croft Cottage! The property is a stunning British-style 3-storey villa, beautifully designed and immaculately maintained. The location is excellent, making it both peaceful and convenient. The cottage has lovely common areas that make it feel warm and inviting, perfect for relaxing together. A special mention and heartfelt thanks to Taranga, the housekeeper, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable in every way. His attention to detail, hospitality, and genuine care made the experience exceptional — he truly elevated our time here. Overall, Croft Cottage is the perfect blend of charm, comfort, and luxury. Superlatives pour, as they must for this piece of living history, still a members club for well-heeled Colombo society, set in the lush wooded Highlands of Sri Lanka. For Brits the portraits of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip (Churchill props up the bar), borrowable ties and jackets for dinner in the formal dining room, billiard rooms, tea in the reading room browsing Whitakers Almanac from 1956, hot water bottles, sweeping views (and weather) indistinguishable from those from a country house in Shropshire, render the experience surreal. Dinner was a great spread, the Sri Lankan breakfast a must. Stacey provided a warm and professional greeting, ask too for Hasim's short tour of the public areas. All the staff were unfailingly courteous and helpful. Room number 3 was glorious, well appointed and maintained with a large bathroom, all looking over the estate's perfectly groomed parkland.

Every aspect of this boutique, modern eco lodge was AMAZING! We stayed for a couple of days after Christmas and loved the festive feel, fire pits, and beautiful sunrise and sunsets. The buildings blend in with the landscape and interiors are stunning - recommend staying in Chalet Neru. The food was delicious and higher end and the fruit / veg grown onsite. Our kids loved the farm tour and homemade ice cream and jams. All staff were super friendly, professional and seemed genuinely happy to work there. Kitchen was accommodating with my allergy restrictions. I’d been concerned about insects before we arrived however only spotted a couple of stick insects outdoors during our trip. Everyone in our family wished we could have stayed at the property for at least one more night.

I absolutely loved the Heritance Tea Factory. I would go as far as to say that it is one of the best places I have ever stayed, it was a real treat. This hotel is special in so many ways - the building being a converted tea factory; the unique check in - no stress, and so welcoming , including of course a cup of tea; the proposed activities, the quality of the food, the location……….. but most of all the welcoming staff. Everybody had a smile on their face. We did the tea plucking and Jayanthi and Krishnaveni made it a very memorable and unique experience. The cherry on the cake for me was the complimentary birthday cake and staff singing happy birthday to me as I left. It was part of an unforgettable birthday for me. I would whole heartedly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is situated on a hill overlooking 24 hectares of tea plantation, surrounded by luscious mountains. It is the perfect combination of peace and isolation amidst a breathtaking scenery. The hotel staff are very attentive to guests’ needs - be it booking car transfers or showing the best hike routes in the area. This place is a gem and we look forward to coming back.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were so attentive and helpful. We were arriving in later than expected and they had food prepared for us. The breakfast was delicious. The location was perfect as well very close to everything. Couldn’t recommend the accommodation enough - really happy with the accommodation and again the staff were just so great.

Besides doing the incredibly beautiful hike to Adams Peak, you can hire a tuktuk driver to guide you to Morey's Waterfall. the best waterfall we got to hike to in Sri lanka, challenging 1 hour hike but you'll get to stroll thru lush tea plantations and walk along side Lake Morey.

A nice area to do a lot of treks amongst the tea plantations . central location if you need to drive up to hill station of Nuwera Eliya or experience the wild life at Horton Plains, A lot of Hindu Kovils to explore in town of Hatton and Tea Factory experience at Dunkeld Tea Factory.

Maskeliya is a market town which could be lot more .The hilly terrain is a planners dream. I imagine the buildings painted pastal pink and yellow, flower pots hanging from the eves, it could be a destination rather than a quick stop to buy supplies on the way to elsewhere as is now.

If you are into budget travel and want a genuine local...

If you are into budget travel and want a genuine local experience, NanuOya is a good town to visit. It’s very close to the main tourist town Nuwara Eliya (approx 9km away) and has buses heading there every 20mins. You can also get there by train. The locals are very helpful and kind. You get a few places to eat food like South Indian dishes and koththu and a few places to buy liquor from. There are two waterfalls and the larger, wider one located inside the Glassough tea estate is a place where you can bathe in on a sunny day. It’s a lovely little town surrounded by tea estates!

Wonderful place to stay and good place to explore. We went to Lover's Leap Waterfalls, Gregory lake, Sita Temple, Hanuman Temple, Labookellie Tea Centre, Ambewela Farms, Victoria Park, Hakgala Botanical Gardens and Grand Hotel.

Do not climb on Saturdays as you will most probably not be...

Do not climb on Saturdays as you will most probably not be able to reach the top. It was over-crowded and the path is narrow the last 500 meters. Got stuck in one spot for 45 minutes and decided to turn around. Still got amazing views though and the experience of local pilgrimage which was a privilege!

Nuwara Eliya’s weather is quite different from most of Sri Lanka due to its high elevation. Unlike the tropical heat in the lowlands, it has a cool, misty, and unpredictable climate. Temperatures can drop below 10°C at night, and rain showers are common even during sunny days. Before traveling, it’s best to: Check the weather forecast for rain, fog, or sudden temperature drops. Pack warm clothing, as evenings and mornings can be chilly. Carry an umbrella or light raincoat, since showers are frequent. Plan outdoor activities (like visiting tea estates, Horton Plains, or Gregory Lake) for clearer parts of the day. “We visited on rainy days, which made it impossible to see the main attractions, as most of the time it was foggy.”
