FAQs about hotels in Bavaria
Romantic Region of Castles and Christmas Markets
Home to some of the world’s oldest and finest Christmas markets, Bavaria is the German region touching Lake Constance and the Austrian and Czech borders. Although evoking images of beer, lederhosen and fairytale castles, it’s much, much more than that.
Famous for Oktoberfest, its capital Munich has impressive architecture lining squares and parks, and several luxury Bavaria hotels on Booking.com. To the north, Nuremberg is a city of 2 halves: a picture-postcard old town and grandiose Nazi rally grounds housing a sensitive museum.
With a stately palace and gardens, Erlangen is on the Regnitz River which continues to beautiful Bamberg where one of the half-timbered buildings hovers above the flowing river. Bayreuth is well-known for opera performances of Wagner, a former resident, while Regensburg on the Danube River has a beautiful, medieval centre.
Unsurprisingly, most romantic Bavaria hotels are on the Romantic Road between Würzburg, with its hilltop castle, and Füssen in the foothills of the Alps. Neighbouring Hohenschwangau has 2 royal castles, one of which – Neuschwanstein – inspired the Disney castle. Oberammergau has frescoed façades and hosts a 10-yearly Passion Play, and nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a top German ski resort, with Tyrolean-style houses overlooked by Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.
Back on the Romantic Road, Augsburg has colourful buildings, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber is like stepping back in time.

Great tradition of Oktoberfest.
Great tradition of Oktoberfest. The traditional beer tents were lovely and the whole festival atmosphere was a wonderful experience. Marienplatz and the Residence were beautiful historic places. Lots of historic buildings and churches to see. The English Garden was a good a long walk and the Deutches Museum was very interesting - thought-provoking exhibits, great modern feel, within an old building.Guest review byClaireUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Center of Nuremberg was almost leveled in WW2.
Center of Nuremberg was almost leveled in WW2. The postwar reconstruction of buildings mostly created replacement buildings in a bland style, though the street layout remained. The churches were very well restored. I liked nearby Bamberg better on a day trip from Nuremberg. (45 minutes by Regional Bahn train.)Guest review byRichardUnited States - 8.0

Lovely city to have a stop during my drive to a business meeting. City has nice architecture and the Donau river gives the extra touch. Enough possibilities to have a nice lunch and diner. Can recommend Burgerheart when you want some nice American experience. Loved the peer-melon limonade. Went now two year in a row to Regensburg and can't wait for the next one.Guest review byBoecky89Belgium - 10.0

A very interesting historical city, much of which has been lovingly restored after devastating air raid damage in WW2. The Residence I(and its gardens) are well worth visiting, being a smaller scale version of the palaces at Versailles and Charlottenburg. Don't miss the Hofkirche while there. The Marienberg Fortress on the hill overlooking the town offers fantastic views, but is currently being extensively refurbished. It is still worth visiting though. And if you like visiting churches, you will not be disappointed here. Fantastic cuisine and wine available here. we can heartily recommend Aifach Resins and zum Stachel, the former for more contemporary cuisine and the latter for more traditional fare in traditional and historic surroundings.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Augsburg is a very charming city with lots of points of interest and restaurants and caffee's. Don't miss the Rathausplatz, Fuggerei, Maximilianstrasse, Koenigplatz and old city walls. For good Bavarian/Schwaebische Food I recommend Restaurant unter dem Bogen on Annastrasse. People watching and relaxing Caffee Eber am Rathausplatx. Take one of the city tours, organized by the city and raasonably priced. Augsburgs Strassenbahn System makes it easy to get around, buy a "Streifenkarte". Walk around in the Altstadt and around the "Kahnfahrt" and the old city walls- it is just beautiful.Guest review byUrsulaGermany - 10.0

We LOVED Fűssen!
We LOVED Fűssen! The old charm feel, the energetic cafe night time vibe, the many walking/biking paths to explore the area and the quaint neighborhood charm made it a wonderful destination. I wish we stayed longer. We ate at Ludwig’s and sat in the Swan seats. The food was delicious and the inside decor was charming. We also rode our bikes to Neuschwanstein Castle which was 15-20 minutes away. There were so many bike paths throughout the area that we were able to visit many places on bikes.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Beautiful village, access to Zugspitze, Partnach Gorge, great olde world charm, stunning views, fresh air, great place to holiday and relax. Free buses to get around, great Asian food just around the corner, probably 100 metres and reasonably priced. Great trip to Lindenhof palace and gardens, Zugspitze, Partnach Gorge and Mittenwald Cow Parade, the highlight of my stay in Garmisch Partenkirchen.Guest review byCherylAustralia - 10.0
Passau is a gem!
Passau is a gem! Wonderful architecture, beautiful laid back ambience, great array of cafes , bars and restaurants and the overwhelming sense of the cultural heights that humanity can achieve. The presence of the Danube pervades all-and boat trips are a must. This is a " must visit"-again and again!!!Guest review byDavid StewartUnited Kingdom - 10.0

It is a picturesque city with a unique experience, somewhat allowing an impression of how life was in the medieval ages. Also the surrounding area is great for walks. It is very interesting to explore this city and dive into medieval history in the medieval crime and justice museum (which I would highly recommend, to get the right primer to the Rothenburg experience. Just be aware that there are very, very many tourists. This also means you might want to pick your restaurants carefully... There are very nice restaurants, but some might just look nice and offer just mediocre meals - as expected for tourist magnets. Overall I was positively surprised that such a gem still exists. Definitively worth visiting.Guest review byMaus
