Thambu Illam is a lovely, atmospheric colonial villa in a quiet area of Jaffna. Our double room was simple, but comfortable and there were plenty of areas outside the room - verandahs, garden, interior patio - to sit and relax. Even though the guesthouse doesn't have its own kitchen, the food we ordered through the guesthouse and which the staff served in an open pavillion by the swimming pool was delicious and authentically Sri Lankan. We'd also like to highlight the wonderful treatment we received from the helpful and attentive staff. Among other things, they arranged several tuk tuk rides for us with the incredible Prasath, as well as onward transport.

If you’re looking for a place that feels like home the moment you walk in, I wholeheartedly recommend staying with Tony . Tony & Stanley are two genuine, good-hearted people. chatting with them was interesting and fun – they’re both free spirits. The room and shared bathroom were clean, and the balcony was a perfect spot to relax in the evening. I missed out on trying Tony’s breakfast, apparently he likes to cook. One more reason I would have loved to stay longer. Highly recommend! Btw, Sophie the dog, is an angel :)

The house owner Mr Biren Mahendran is very cooperative when booking the house. And the location is very peaceful, beautiful and secure. Well sufficient for a family or a group. Rooms are well cleaned and furniture are modern. Having a modern kitchen with all the necessary equipment. Really enjoyed the stay. The caretaker Mr Kerthi was very much helpful and he's fluent in Sinhala and English. Worth the money. Located in 550m away from Jaffna-KKS road and 9.5 Km away from Jaffna.

The family were so lovely and very helpful and kind. They have thought of everything to make the stay so good. Having a fridge/freezer to cool water etc so important when it is so hot. Great suggestions of places to visit in Jaffna. We recommend staying here for sure. 😊
