Public bath is spacious with 3 hot tubs and 1 cool tub. Beds are comfortable for both western style and Japanese style. Location is great: directly facing the main street. There is a side walk garden behind the hotel facing Akan Lake. Considerable amount of English speaking foreign staffs while the command of English of Japanese staff is also ok. There is free shuttle bus service between public car parks nearby.

It has a roof top onsen where both male and female can relax together, not many onsen allow family soaking in warm pool together. The best part can view the stars and enjoy the cold breeze on your face while soaking in warm pool. Ideal for family.

The location is beautiful. It’s right at the beginning of the national park. Walking distance to Kussharo lake is 30-40 minutes. There are bikes available for rent which I would highly recommend if you don’t have a car. You can see a lot of Hokkaido animals around the area like deers, eagles, foxes, bears, birds etc. Owner organizes morning sunrise tours that take 1:15 hours, which is absolutely beautiful. You can see the milky way at night. Dorms are spacious and have a sink in the room. Laundry machines available. Onsen is old but very nice and filled with natural hot spring water. Shampoo and shower gel are provided. There are 3 cats in the guesthouse that are super cute. Breakfast and dinner are superb and they make meals for vegetarians (which you have to tell them in advance). There are no convenience stores or restaurants in the area so it’s better to get the half board. Free shuttle available from Mashu station. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The owner’s daughter is very cute and helps out wherever needed.

What an amazing location ! My bedroom had an amazing view on the river and I regularly saw some deers hanging around ! The private onsen is such a luxury and the bedroom was overall clean and confortable ! There is a free shuttle that regularly brings you to Akan Lake which is really convenient if you don’t have a car. A special thank to the driver who was always on time, very helpful and caring. He was the only one in the staff who was customer-oriented and embodied the service of a 5star hotel.

Fantastic ryokan overlooking the lake. We had a huge room with a private onsen and fabulous floor to ceiling lake views from the windows. (It is worth paying extra for the lake view.) The room was spotless and so well equipped, the staff were all friendly and helpful. Dinner was exceptional and served in a private dining room. It was an amazing experience. The ryokan was very close to the bus station, so it was easy to reach without a car. We used the bus from Kitami and the local bus to Kushiro Station.
