After reading the rave reviews, I booked this stay months in advance to make sure we would not miss the opportunity to meet Ken and Yuki and to stay at their guesthouse boasting modern facilities and balancing comfort and sleek design with traditional Japanese architecture and minimalistic and elegant interior design. At the end of a long day hiking, we were greeted with a big smile as if we'd come home to our family, a feeling that is both priceless and heatwarming. Ken's kind and welcoming nature is only rivalled by Yuki's and her sense of humor. Dinner was as delicious as our breakfast (all guests shamelessly went for seconds and some even thirds taking the lead for a brave lady I shall not name), enjoyed to the sound of Jazz standards in a communal spirit shared with the other guests, all of whom polite and considerate, as if handpicked by the hosts or perhaps instinctively mirroring their behavior. Guests do not have to wait to take a shower because there are three showers, one of which with an additional bathtub, for four rooms. Everything is impeccably clean and organized, making you feel restful instantly. So, do not hesitate to book this guesthouse as you make your way along the Old Nakasendo Road or just take a taxi to Magome and walk a few hundred meters to take photos for your Insta. Whether you fit the former or latter category, you will be treated as a family member by the kindest people we've met during our 3-week stay in Japan. I've already recommended this guesthouse to everyone I know who is planning to visiting Japan.

Nice, clean and comfortable. We loved the wooden smell and enjoyed the private bath. The breakfast was delicious. Easy to get to with a car. Self check in and check out process was smooth to do especially as we arrived late. Should have stayed another night or made sure to arrive early to properly enjoy the accomodation.

Situated in Takayama and with Takayama Station reachable within 600 metres, THE MACHIYA HOTEL TAKAYAMA features concierge services, non-smoking rooms, a garden, free WiFi throughout the property and a shared lounge. This 4-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage space. The property is 300 metres from the city centre and 2.2 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. It was beautiful and close to everything. The toilet was automatic and amazing, lovely apartment and comfy beds

The spacious apartment features 1 bedroom, a flat-screen TV with streaming services, a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave and a toaster, a washing machine, and 1 bathroom with a bidet. For added convenience, the property can provide towels and linens for a supplement. For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. Lovely apartment in a great location very close to the main shopping and sightseeing areas. The apartment is huge and well stocked with a variety of kitchen appliances so it's possible to cook meals. There's a laundry located off the kitchen and a bathroom with a generous amount of toiletry products located behind that. There's ample heating if needed. Everything was exceptionally clean, well organised and of good quality. There is one huge bedroom upstairs containing 5 beds and a partition blind you can lower if required. There is a toilet upstairs and one downstairs just as you enter the building. Access to the apartment is via a digital lock opened via a code which the host supplies before arrival. I'm usually reluctant to recommend apartments since people have different requirements, likes and dislikes but this place is really lovely and very reasonably priced. I would definitely stay here again if I ever returned to Takayama.

Ideally located in the Izu Nagaoka Onsen district, this ryokan provides a terrace, as well as a hot tub. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. I enjoyed the variety of Onsen. The food was delicious. Staff were so nice too.

2.7 km from Atagawa You Yu Beach in Higashiizu, Bousui offers accommodation with access to a sauna, hot spring bath and hot tub. The property has sea and quiet street views, and is 34 km from Shuzen-ji Temple. The ryokan also features free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests. Everything was perfect. Amazing romantic gateway. 10/10 Friendly staff. Amazing dinner and breakfast. Relaxing. Amazing bath.
