Such an amazing Cave hotel. the people are friendly. The room was spacious, with high ceilings. the furniture and amenities all on point. the bed and sleep-sofa both were comfortable, while still also looking like a cave <3 The room also comes with 2 giant moisture guards that keep the room nice. they make noise but can be switched off when going to sleep. Be sure to expect some humidity as it is a cave, this is not a negative point to me as it is logical but it appears not everyone was prepared for it haha You order breakfast the day before. It is then delivered to the room in the morning at the time you choose. The selection was good and the food lovely. on a final note, the entire city and also the hotel is surrounded by slopes and stairs. Wear some good shoes and take your time to get your luggage to and from the place you are staying. There is a manned parking garage near the hotel on the Via Vena (Parcheggio Communbale Via Vena) (few min walk) which costs 20 euro's a day. good price!

The devil hides in the details, and this is a very good example. Our host prepared everything for us. He sent us the directions in advance, also indicating where to park. As we arrived, he gave us suggestions of places to visit, where to eat, what to do. Did I mention that the room was great? A nice bed, a full bathroom, and even a hydromassage bathtub. The breakfast was fantastic, directly from the bakery, and they had drinks at your disposal. Definitely, it was a great experience and an excellent service.

Francesco was so warm and welcoming, greeting us with coffee and croissants and sharing a map to walk us through Matera’s rich history and must-see spots. The host Giuseppe was amazing and so helpful!!! He really took care of us and explained all the highlights of Matera Sassi. The room was delightful and cosy and there was a rich breakfast we could have on the terrace. The location could not be better! When leaving there was no bus that day, so Giuseppe was so kind and accompanied us from Sassi to our car in Matera. We highly recommend Dimore dei Mercanti!

What a welcome! Charming hosts, who just ooze warmth and greeting. Our room had a little balcony - the bed was super comfortable. In the morning we walked down to the cafe on the ground floor where a buffet spread was laid out for breakfast, great selection of sweet and savoury.
