Semi-retired, we are a couple who loves to go hiking and travelling. We love to share our recommendations on things to see in NZ. We have been hosting guests at our place since 2023 and enjoy giving people a warm welcome to our special Marlborough Sounds area. We have a long family history in Havelock and the Pelorus Sound - over 100 years, and are happy to point out the local attractions, walks, restaurants & cafes.
Havelock is a lovely little village of about 500 people. The main commercial activity is Aquaculture as Havelock is the gateway to the Pelorus Sound where the famous, Green-lipped mussels are farmed, as well as NZ King Salmon and Oysters too. The well renowned Pelorus Mailboat operates all year round offering a unique way to see the Sounds and the people who live and work there. All within walking distance, Havelock boasts three restaurants, three cafe's and a coffee cart, a Hotel, a mussel & seafood eatery, a takeaway selling fish & chips as well as Chinese meals and burgers, and a Burger cart. There is also a great grocery store, outdoor/camping store, an art Gallery, craft shop, chemist shop and a Museum. All of these amenities are an easy 10min walk from your accommodation. Only 30mins drive from Blenheim and 60mins from Nelson, Havelock is the perfect spot to base yourself for a Top of the South island experience.
