Double doors from the living areas and kitchen connect to the private garden, where you can enjoy al fresco meals at the garden table, host a BBQ, or simply relax with a glass of wine. The garden is peaceful, surrounded by high hedges for privacy, and even features a spot to greet friendly horses over the fence.
The location is a haven for nature lovers. Situated on the edge of a national park, with breathtaking walking and cycling paths, it offers easy access to nearby attractions like Suisse Normandie
Le Gîte des Violettes has been the backdrop to so many of our wonderful adventures, and it’s become our sanctuary away from the bustle of everyday life. We’ve poured our hearts into this second home and wanted to open its doors to share what we love with you.
Whenever we’re in France, we make the most of every moment—walking our dogs along beautiful trails, riding horses through the countryside, playing tennis, practicing yoga, and, of course, unwinding with family. As trainers, life can get pretty busy, but our time here allows us to recharge and connect with what truly matters.
That’s not to say it’s all peace and quiet—helping teenagers tackle maths homework that’s way over our heads always keeps things lively! You’ll often find me with a tab open on my phone, dreaming up and planning our next adventure from the comfort of Ger.
We hope Le Gîte des Violettes becomes as special to you as it is to us—a place to relax, explore, and create your own unforgettable memories.
We may be a little biased, but we absolutely love the charming village of Ger, just a 10-minute walk from Les Violettes. It’s everything you’d hope for in a French village, complete with a boulangerie, a village shop, and a cozy bar. One of my favorite things is hearing the church clock and bells from the house—such a simple, heartwarming pleasure. Ger also has wonderful walks, including a scenic 5km route through hills and forests.
The surrounding area is a paradise for nature lovers. Nearby forests, with rivers rushing through, are perfect for long walks or cycling. Fosse Arthour, a famous local landmark just a few miles away, offers stunning scenery and is great for dogs and hikers alike. There’s also a delightful French restaurant by the river with a lovely verandah—perfect for a meal after exploring.
Mont St Michel is just an hour’s drive, an absolute must-see. Parking is affordable, and a shuttle takes you near the mount. The abbey is well worth the climb up its steps (though dogs aren’t allowed). Inside the city walls, you’ll find plenty of shops to explore. It’s a magical experience that shouldn’t be missed.
Mortain, en route to Mont St Michel, makes for another great day trip. It’s home to the grand cascade, a beautiful gushing waterfall with walking trails and peaceful benches along the way. Nearby is the petit cascade, equally charming. If you’re lucky, your route may take you through Le Neufberg, where the cozy L’Abbey restaurant awaits. Mortain’s quaint town center is perfect for a leisurely browse through shops and scenic streets.
Barenton features a cycle path repurposed from an old railway, stretching from Domfront to Mont St Michel. Smooth and scenic, it’s ideal for biking or walking. If you make it to the coast, share photos of your adventure! All the surrounding towns and villages boast quiet roads and stunning landscapes, making every journey a joy.
With so much to do, Le Gîte des Violettes is the perfect base for creating unforgettable memories
