We stayed in Mudan because we had rented our own car and thought it would be a good base for exploring the surrounding area, e.g. Shifen, Fulong, etc. And it was perfect for that, everything is close by but Mudan is so quiet and peaceful. We ate dinner in Shuangxi both nights, which is a 10 minute drive away. The host is lovely, and his English is perfectly fine for instructions and for some conversation.

Comfy apartment with relaxing lobby/ dining area where you can just chill listening to music while enjoying light breakfast prepared by hosts. This hotel was absolutely stunning! It was easy to find after following the instructions given by the staff (through email) and so close to the main streets of Jiufen. The views were amazing and the room itself was also very well decorated. It was so clean and roomy and worth every penny. It was also less than a minute walk to a famous taro ball shop which was also nice! Will definitely book again if coming to Jiufen!
