Can't fault it, everything we wanted from the experience was included. Rooms beautiful (and massive), dinner and especially breakfast were excellent and the public baths were lovely. Staff great. Good location a few minutes walk from main areas as well as station.

We're very happy that we selected Hidaya as our first ever ryokan experience. The staff was lovely, instantly made us feel at home and helped us to get the most of our short visit to Takayama (recommendations, taxi and restaurants booking, yukata rental and much, much more). The Japanese style breakfast was delicious and varied from day to day.
The place is very charming and well maintained. The small hot bath was a very nice addition that we've used multiple times.
It's located quite far from any attractions so a car/taxi is your best bet but it can be reached on foot within 10min from a nearby bus stop and around 30min from the historic center.
Highly recommended! Takayama was definitely a highlight of our trip and Hidaya was big part of it. Thank you for your hospitality!
