Hotels in Shuhe Old Town, Lijiang

The hospitality and care for the wellness of their guests go beyond expectations and anything I have ever experienced in a hotel. From the first moment of walking through the doors and being greeted by May and HeiMi (the cat), I felt the warmness of stepping foot into Bivou-instantly, I was at a place that felt like home. Right when we stepped through the threshold, we were offered homemade bread (that I could still taste even now) and some delicious apple tea. The ayis (aunties) helped move our heavy luggage into the beautiful room, and spent time introducing the activities in the hotel, activities we could do around Lijiang, and different hikes that we could go on. Our room was so COMFORTABLE - high ceilings, spacious bathroom with a rain shower, clean and woodsy interior, and firm beds with warming mats. The welcome package included lotion, lip balm, and the most comprehensive maps of Lijiang, as well as a binder filled with activities to do. The activities weren't your typical "tourist" activities but they were incredibly curated, local gems like biking to Baishi village and going to see the Naxi orchestra (Nomi helped booked for us! Thank you!). The owner of Bivou is so fun and helpful - she gave us a map for Tiger Leaping Gorge and even helped us arrange a hotel on the trail! For a lot of my stay in Lijiang, I was sick (some food poisoning), but the ayis, especially May, kept me alive - not even exaggerating. They went out of their way to cook porridge for me, recommended and brewed red tea for my stomach ache, delivered homemade soup and dumplings up to the room, and changed the bed sheets at midnight for us. The Bivou cafe was the ONLY place I trusted to eat at because I wasn't feeling well. The food is so healthy, fresh, homecooked with love, and absolutely healing. Bivou is not your typical boutique hotel, not the Banyan, nor the Four Seasons.

My Love Inn in Lijiang offers a serene and peaceful retreat in a charming tea house setting. This hidden gem is impeccably maintained with immaculate surroundings. The minimalist design and beautiful decor create an inviting atmosphere. The inn, nestled among lush trees, provides a tranquil environment that enhances relaxation. We visited My Love Inn as a couple and were profoundly impressed by the unparalleled hospitality of the personable owner and her exceptional staff. From the moment we arrived, their warmth made us feel completely at home. Every interaction was marked by genuine care and attention to detail. The owner's passion and personable touch were evident in every aspect of our stay, ensuring an exceptional experience. The highlight of our stay was the captivating Chinese tea ceremony. We were so intrigued that we canceled our tour to join the lesson offered by the beautiful tea master. She shared her profound knowledge and passion, deepening our appreciation for the connection between tea, health, and mindfulness. Her explanations and enthusiasm transformed the tea ceremony into an enriching and unforgettable experience. Breakfast at My Love Inn was delightful. Each morning, we enjoyed a beautifully presented, delicious, and nutritious breakfast. The selection included fresh, local ingredients, thoughtfully prepared to highlight regional flavors. We were also grateful for the owner's gracious invitation to lunch, accompanied by the lovely and friendly staff, which added depth to our visit. The meals, enjoyed in a serene setting, further enhanced our well-being. The combination of exquisite cuisine, exceptional service, and cultural immersion made our stay truly memorable. This is one of the best experiences we've ever had, leaving us with cherished memories and a strong eagerness to return.

We really enjoyed our stay at Jayden Lodge Homestay. Johnson and Carole were so welcoming and friendly, we felt like home at their place. It was really appreciable to speak English with them, they are also really happy to share and to help. The bedroom was really big and bright, and it was greatly atypical to stay in an old naxi house. Everything was perfect, we highly recommend!

The room was spotless and thoughtfully furnished with many lovely details. The garden was beautifully decorated, featuring comfortable furniture that made it the perfect spot to unwind. The host was incredibly kind and accommodating—knowing we had an early departure, they even packed our breakfast in advance.

The location of the hotel is very good

Sprawling and peaceful compound. My son loved the little animals in the hotel. Beautiful view of the mountain.

The manager Mandy took care of us in every detail and made us feel like home with her loving smiles. Mandy made Xilu Xiaoxie inn like coming back home.

I am very particular in choosing a place to stay for our travel. One of the owners, Arlin has been very active in communicating with me through email and wechat, answering all of my queries and requests. So that little act of service helped to convince me to book them. They offered a free pick up service from train station and they also has a porter service to help you carry your luggage all the way to your room. Upon arrival, i was super stoke because the hotel is exactly how they advertised in the website. They offered a bit more contemporary design while staying true to the traditional theme. We were greeted warmly with tea and i guess only the owner can converse in english but the workers arent. But despite the lack of english, we made do with translation app. Our room is spacious and clean with no speck of dust, our balcony is facing the old town street and literally you can just go out from the hotel and immediately shop. The hotel also very modern in a sense that they have a control button for their curtain anddd i cannot stress this enough, they HAVE AUTOMATED TOILET WITH THE FREAKING HOLY BIDET AND DYSON HAIRDRYER. Being a Malaysian, having a bidet is a must so to my fellow Malaysian traveller, im vouching for this hotel. Their toilet paper is 4 ply. They also have washer + dryer machine located at the ground floor, free to use, so another plus point there. I washed my clothes everynight, and then hang out with the owner while waiting for my laundry. They offered free breakfast, but seeing we are muslim, he switched the local breakfast with pastries instead. They always prepared free candies, local fruits and tea at the receptionist which i always took whenever i went out. The location of the hotel is also very convenient, it is very near to the main road, the iconic water wheel and dashi bridge. The attentiveness and care they provided for their guests, answering every questions no matter how silly they sounded, has really won it for me. Will come again!

All of the staff there were lovely and helpful, Joye has perfect English skills, helped us settled many communication problems during my travel even we left Lijiang. The room was comfortable and had authentic ancient ambient, there are two lovely dogs, everything there made our experience incredible.
