The host of the B&B De Vijf Zuilen is the friendliest, most welcoming & helpful B&B host we have ever met. The B&B is in a quiet location only 5 minutes drive from the centre of Bruges. There is excellent private parking on the grounds behind the house. The room we stayed in was large, well decorated, with a comfy bed & selection of pillows. Our room also had a kettle & a fan. The shower had good water pressure. The grounds have multiple sets of tables and chairs to relax on, or in our case eat our take out dinner at. Breakfast is prepared each morning with care & love. We were given a selection of cold meats, cheeses, breads & pastries, yoghurt, muesli, fruits etc. all beautifully presented. What we couldn't finish at breakfast, we were encouraged to take with us for lunch. From the time we arrived and were given a welcome drink of our choice, throughout our whole stay until the time we left and were given a parting gift, we felt very well looked after. It was an absolute joy to stay at the B&B De Vijf Zuilen. I recommend it to anyone who is considering a visit to Bruges.

Lots of space and super atmospheric. Much better than a hotel room. A big comfy bed and a Christmas tree with lights on it .

The host is ready nice. She recommended some stores for buying chocolates and waffles and also provided nice equipments and stuffs such as the laundry machine, salt and oil in the kitchen. She even called the taxi for us since we can’t speak Dutch.

How often do you get the chance to live in a palace? This was the palace where Charles the Bold and his daughter Mary of Burgundy lived (and indeed where she passed). The hotel is beautiful and is nicely located in Bruges, close to everything but not in the middle of it all. That is to say, you get the best of both worlds. Our room had a city view with big windows, allowing you to see the entire Bruges skyline, listen to the bells, and see one of the golden statues of the Duke’s Palace that adorn the roofline. The bathroom was spacious and had a separate bathtub and shower cabin. There was a window from the bathroom into the main room, which was nice. Breakfast had many options, including a station where you could carve your own Belgium chocolate (dark, milk, and white) with a two-handled knife! There were lots of fresh fruit options, waffles, and even sparkling wine. Many standard breakfast foods were available in the buffet, but omelets and lactose-free coffee options are available when you ask. The back room of the dining area is a little dark and not as nice as the front part, which has a wall of windows which allows you to see the palace while you eat. A coffeemaker is in the room, and we asked for a tea kettle and bottle opener from the front desk. There is a nice souvenir store just around the corner that stays open later than the other stores and sells a good variety of Belgium beers (and other things). We enjoyed staying in the Palace and it added to the experience of being in historic Bruges.
