Route 62 is a great drive and Barrydale is a convenient distance from Cape Town for a stop, The village is small but has interesting places to visit. Arrive in time to look round and leave the next by lunchtime the next day - that's all the time you need but it's worth taking time to stop and look round. I love that the people there have old school charm, honest and down to earth. The arty vibe and friendliness stand out for me. If you love reading as I do, it is just perfect. Lot's a quirky spots to visit, some great food, and perfect for walks and biking. Diesel and creme was a hit, food was great. Karoo hotel is great spot too for a dinner or to watch some sport. Barrydale has some quirky little shops, coffee shops and a very interesting African art museum and curio shop. Everything closes at 4 p.m. along the main road, so the Karoo Art Hotel is a good choice for dinner. We could enjoy delicious coffee, and put something quick on the braai. The hot shower and very comfortable bed was heaven. The rest of the weekend was spent exploring Barrydale and cooling off in the quiet garden, experiencing the Karoo at its best. Karoo Kaven is a gem, we were amazed at the preparation the owners must've put in. We never needed something, not thought of and ready to be used. My kids love it as there are enough lawn to play ball games and they have a netball hoop. In summer they can swim, and the outside braai area is cleaned everyday. In winter you can cozy up at the fireplace. We like the fact that the Karoo hotel next to the villa has freshly baked muffins and scones and for lunch amazing bread.
