This place is as beautiful as the pictures. The staff is very warm/ friendly and very welcoming. The hotel is very clean. The breakfast selection was good. The hotel is at the beach front so u wake up to sea views ( sea facing rooms) and could take morning / early evening walks🌅. You can book your activities through the hotel. Most importantly the hotel is family friendly as well. Sea food platter was delicious 🤩

The breakfast and the food in general were delicious as was freshly made a la cart for each customer.The personnel were very polite and they knew well the English language.But what impressed me most was the hospitality and warmth of the hotel’s owners Tomek & Malgo.They were always present and assisted each client personally.Especially for people like me travelling solo I felt safe at that hotel. Brilliant break fast, very good value for money. Excellent place to relax away from the hustle bustle of city life. Spacious and very clean room, bathroom was also very well maintained. Staff were very cordial and friendly the owner too. Emanuel is an excellent person.

The rooms were clean and had a beautiful sea view & view of the sunrise over the ocean. The staff was amazing, Kassia and Pawel were incredible hosts and everyone did their best to help us with any requests we had, we felt very welcome. Interesting place to stay to get an insight into local Zanzibar life.

We stayed here for a few days after safari for our honeymoon, and it was the perfect location to relax. We stayed in a King Suite and it had an incredible view out to the ocean, and a perfect sea breeze to cool down in the evenings. The room was gorgeous, and everything about the hotels decor is beautiful. Food in the restaurant is delicious including breakfast, and the cooking class and reef walk were both really fun. Two pools to choose between, a beach bar, and directly on the beach. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect stay!

From the moment we walked through the gate we felt relaxed and happy in the beautiful jungle oasis that it is. Staff all lovely, felt very cared for, space to chill but lots to do nearby on this amazing diverse island. Maria and Paco could not be more helpful with organising trips and local info.

    Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

    Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

    Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with...

    Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.

    The snorkeling was a true adventure, with well-protected marine life and crystal-clear water. Spotting the dolphins was an unexpected bonus! Visiting the sea turtle rehabilitation center and feeding them was a special experience.

    Matemwe beach was huge and totally uncrowded - some days we...

    Matemwe beach was huge and totally uncrowded - some days we were lucky to see 10 - 20 people pass by! Loved the Massai beach hawkers - friendly and laid back happy to have their pictures taken - no hassle or relentless chasing - once told 'no' they respected our space. Recommend a day trip to Nungwi for a completely different vibe and fantastic sunset. Matemwe is somewhat isolated and if you want to get around you need to secure the number of a local taxi driver - always bargain hard beforehand. Most hotels organise trips/tours but at a premium.

    It was a quieter beach which was nice which also meant not too many people hassling you to buy things. Those that did were respectful. Beach is nice but the sea depth is very shallow most of the day so swimming wasn't the easiest and there was a lot of seaweed when we were there.

    It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

    Wonderfully located directly at Matemwe Beach, the hotel offered spacious and clean rooms with very comfortable beds. Also, the two pools were enjoyable and surrounded by comfy spots to relax. Both breakfast and dinner was delicious and we liked having having a tasty cocktail at the beach bar. The entire team was very friendly and attentive and every wish was taken care of. A place like paradise :) We were more than happy to stay here and would definitely recommend it!

    Our holiday was awesome at the hotel. We really appreciate our host Samir who helped us with everything. He showed us the hotel and answered our questions. He is very friendly and joyful. If you need any help you can always find him in the reception and I’m sure he will be happy to help you or to show you around. The stuff was amazing too specially Aziza. The food is great as well as the rooms are very clean . This is the best place to stay in Zanzibar.💕

    It is the most beautiful and comfortable hotel I've ever seen. it feels very luxurious and you can really relax in the cute rooms and restaurant. The pool area is also amazing and the umbrellas give a welcome relief from the strong sun on the local beach. The staff are the best, so sweet and attentive. It's very very clean, the staff clean rooms every day and spray against mosquitoes. Food is delicious as well, although pricy.

    We love this place. Firstly, Matemwe is a relatively quiet spot and the lodge opens up to the beach. You can spend all day just watching life happen or go for a swim/snorkel at high tide or get on a boat to snorkel further out beyond the reef. Secondly the space is comfortable and clean. The staff and the owner are also fantastic…friendly and attentive. The buffet breakfast is great too.

    Matemwe beach is one of the top beaches in Zanzibar, white sand and a lot of colored little boats on the shoreline. The place is quiet and relaxing, the bar/restaurant sourronded by beautiful plants and trees. This sounds authentical african. Two steps from the restaurant and you are on the beach. This is really worth.
