We didn’t go into the town of Haast, but were just outside, on the road to Jackson Bay. After the crowds and bustle of other towns, Haast Beach was a welcome change. A lovely small town on the edge of the Mt Aspiring National Park that was a great gateway to all this area has to offer for walking, biking and just enjoying the scenery. Good choices for restaurants, close to a beach and a very neat inviting town.Guest review byLawrenceAustralia - 8.0

Not many tourists stop here. The Visitors Centre is amazing with a brilliant interpretative display. The drive to Jackson Bay is well worth making the time for to explore the wild Southland areas. Highly recommend the Heartland Hotel for dinner.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Great value for money, great room and very good wifi.
Great value for money, great room and very good wifi. Restaurant on-site excellent. But no kitchen in room, no toaster, no fridge in room (shared fridge in hallway), makes it difficult to have breakfast in your room.Guest review byWilson - 10.0
It was a great base to check out South Westland from.

Some really good coastal walks set up by DOC.
Some really good coastal walks set up by DOC. Some great board walks and coastal walks of various lengths. Peaceful area with most tourists not taking advantage of the walks and stopping in car parks for a quick look only. Warning: don't go off road near beachs. The kitchen had a hob and was well equipped, fresh milk was available to get us started. Although a little out of the way it is a stay not to miss. A 1 minute walk and you're on the beach. Full of local knowledge and very happy to help in any way. The location was central. Close to the local pub, crepe stall and Cafe.
