We had the most amazing stay at Bungaraya! The location is idyllic, the staff are the best, most wonderful people and were fantastic at helping organise a proposal 🥂. It is the ideal place to learn about the conservation efforts and get away from the world. We really liked that we couldn't get wifi in the villa as it made us disconnect and appreciate where we were more but that might not be practical for everyone. The food was delicious and fresh with a mix of local and international flavours. All in all a wonderful place and hopefully we will be back in the future! **Side note - we were lucky enough to stay at the Gayana Marine resort on the other side of the island for a few days and it was equally amazing! Very relaxed vibes, perfect if you want seclusion and watch the marine life 🐟

This is the most amazing place! We almost didn’t go because of the reviews but so glad we went (other guest we spoke to also thought they were crazy!) The staff are the kindest, the food is amazing ( especially if you like Malaysian food) and the rooms with the views are gorgeous. It’s paradise. There’s a lot of trash in the waters around Gaya but the beach is getting cleaned everyday and the fact that the Hotel have Justin and his team of biologists restoring the corals, regrowing the mangroves and taking care of injured turtles really warmed our hearts. Hopefully more resorts will follow suit. If you’re elderly it’s difficult to walk up to the higher houses so maybe ask for a lower chalet before booking (for us it was fine) We had activities every day and if they were fully booked from the hotel Lamb in the reception organized to get us on other tours. We loved this place so much we extended our stay and still wished we had more days.

My girlfriend and I stayed here several days to rest after the rainforest treks. This residence was a pleasant discovery and a rare little gem in the world of hospitality. All nicely decorated, with a large bathroom, hot water (not at all obvious in Borneo) and a comfortable queen bed! The rooms have always been perfectly cleaned and the courtesy kits for guests always stocked with all kinds of very useful things with supplies even outside the room (often not even given in luxury hotels). The staff has always been friendly, really helpful and ready to welcome you at any time or in case of need. Best of all and super recommended! Five stars because more is not possible! ;)

Extremely luxurious for a reasonable price. Good location, especially during the Ramadan market which is right on the street. Everything within distance. There is a fridge and kettle, and really nice soap:) Smart automatic curtains and a working big tv with English movie channel and natgeo. Very bright and clean. Very professional personnel. The hotel is pretty new and small, and they really make an effort to accommodate their guests needs. Ended up staying for more than a week… we loved our stay, and came back and stayed again upon return from Sepilok.

Everything was perfect, room fully equipped with anything you may need. Bed was huge and really comfy. Staff were great and very accommodating. Location was good, not the closest to KK but very close to the airport which was what we needed. Our only issue was that the pool closes every Wednesday for cleaning which meant we couldn't really use it as we stayed late Tuesday to early Thursday. However, the gym was open which was good for a small workout.

An amazing location - wonderful views over the bay from our very nice room. We loved seeing the monkeys, hornbills, monitor lizards and geckos. The staff were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed spending time at the simple private beach a short boat ride away. Make sure you arrive at Jesselton Point at least an hour before your speedboat leaves as they check you in there and it can take ages. Evening dining is either a fish restaurant, a Japanese restaurant or a bewilderingly large buffet.

The staff are exceptional. The variety of food is amazing. Facilities were in good condition and easily accessible. I expected we may be able to hike a few trails on the island but this was not possible. It surprised me for such a relaxed place that you needed more formal attire (trousers, closed shoes and collared shirt for) for one of the restaurants. We weren’t prepared for that. Sunset cruise was brief but great

    - The hotel and its surroundings were really beautiful and clearly very well cared for by the staff. The staff were really knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area - Snorkelling just off the beach and seeing so many fish was really cool, could pop to and from the pool to snorkel when needed - The hotel staff were all so friendly and really helpful throughout the whole trip - The satay and the local breakfast options were really well done and the food in general was to a high quality

The free kayaking and snorkeling was amazing, so much marine life to see around the hotel. The monitor lizards swimming where amazing. Definitely worth going to the ecology centre on site. You can touch a sea cucumber and starfish and see more of the marine life up close. Staff were really friendly and lovely different places to sit in the shade. We had a rainforest room which was more private than the water front rooms and still very easy to walk from the room straight into the sea.

Very friendly staff. They fullfilled every single wish, always helpful and smiling. They offer a great snorkeling trip to Sulug Island. There are many spa treatments available. The pool is amazing, very clean. There is only one restaurant and every dish we had was delicious and looked absolutely beautiful. A wide variety of dishes is available also for breakfast. Water and clean towels are delivered to the room daily.
