We liked the area close to the Riviere Noire Reserve and it...
We liked the area close to the Riviere Noire Reserve and it was convenient for the quieter beaches on the south coast. We recommend a guided tour of the Ebony Forest Reserve. We had a fascinating day out with a very knowledgeable guide and saw a lot of birdlife; the views out to sea are also stunning. Be warned: driving in Mauritius is not easy, even with satnav! We got lost several times, especially around Port Louis. If you choose to go to Port Louis, we recommend using the local bus. There is a bus stop two minutes' walk from the apartment (shortly before London Way supermarket). You can pick up a bus at about 7.30 am and return on a 119 bus at 30 minutes past the hour from Immigration Square near the waterfront of Port Louis. If you want to eat out, the Happy Rajah restaurant on the main road serves good value Indian food. The fish thali is particularly tasty.Guest review byVirginiaItaly - 10.0

The Riviere Noire area is quite busy and urbanised so it isn't a great location if you want to "get away from it all". However, it has some fabulous restaurants, cafes and bars along with useful shops Bed and breakfast hotel tariffs are a great option since you sample superb Mauritian cuisine away from the hotel. It is also a great location for visiting the Black River Gorge. The beach is OK but the stunning beaches at Le Morne and Flic en Flac are each a 15 minute drive away. There was plenty of space in the apartment with good facilities including a dishwasher and washing machine. There were two seating areas inside and an outside terrace with table and chairs. Nice big rooms with the best shower I've ever had! Great sea view and big balcony. We booked have board and I would definitely recommend as there is only a few restaurants around. Big supermarket 10 min walk away. Staff booked us a dolphin boat tour late one night for the next morning, it was all sorted in 30 mins.
