My stay was spectacular. I stayed here for a week, then returned for another 1.5 weeks. Benjamin easily accommodated my last minute request for a much needed early check in, as well as my last min booking for the second stay. I had the room on the top floor. It was beautiful and exactly like the pics. The AC worked very well and I could control it. The bathroom was very clean and nice, which is really my only requirement for a residence. The bed was super comfy and I really appreciated that there was a proper duvet. I also really like that there was a good hair dryer and it even had the attachments! Padmini and Gamini were wonderful hosts, and made me a fantastic breakfast every morning. This hotel started to feel like home. It is a few min walking distance to a small and modern shopping complex which has a good grocery store, a pharmacy, a Subway, Baskin Robbins, and Popeyes. It is a few mins walk from Mount Lavinia hotel and the beaches. The road can get a little dark at night, but I felt safe. It was very easy to call an Uber and it was walking distance to the main road, where Hotel Rd meets Dehiwala.

It is wery old hotel. Have museum inside. It was residental of the first England guverner. Everything is at this stile. Room are big, rare and in old manier. They are clining all the time but need complete renovier and thay start to do it. You can here ocean.

I’m always happy to return back to Ranvali from California.This is my ‘go to’ budget hotel in Colombo. The Ocean is just across the rail tracks but I prefer the relaxed atmosphere of the pool. A short walk from the stores, bus and train station. The place is looking sharp after recent renovations. The staff is always friendly and attentive. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Ranvali to other friends.

    Great place to stay in Colombo area away from city centre but close enough for easy access to city amenities, shops and restaurants. Lovely colonial era building full of charm. The terrace and pool area is unique - right on the ocean. Nothing quite like it in the Colombo area.

    This Colombo (south) hotel is highly recommended for travellers. It is extremely competitively good on price and I often wonder how they make any money with the usual superb and attentive services that come with the competitive price tag! The location is definitely the MOST exotic out of ALL Colombo hotels and also, it virtually has its own train station (well nearly, as it's yards away from the building) adding to the convenience of getting to Colombo North side. The hotel keeps its beach grounds VERY CLEAN...in fact, spotless which again is superb for an older city hotel. This is MUST TRY hotel as its a genuine heritage hotel as well of about 220 years and a lovely historical back story behind the name too!

    Our hotel lodge was disappointing.

    Our hotel lodge was disappointing. We had to comply with what they wanted! We found an amazing guide at the beach who showed us the market, had a meal with his family and took us on a couple of tours. He made our visit here worthwhile. The beach looks lovely but swimming in sea not recommended.

    My stay was quite comfortable, I felt very much at home. The staff were really friendly and super accommodating, especially James. And the host was great at checking in to see if I was okay and if I needed anything. The home is also located near the beach is amazing and close to various amenities which is great. Even With the shared kitchen and dinning area, the home still offered the needed privacy during my stay. I'd come back if I get the chance to visit Sri Lanka again

    Very nice staff, clean , simple guest house with a great roof top terrace with a view of lavinia beach. Its a 1min walk across the train line to the beach, the beach has some rubbish but u are on the cleaner side. Its set in a local area with a variety of restaurants on the beach/main road. A good choice for a night or two travelling through Colombo.

    The hosts were just amazing! Everything is there to make you feel at home! You'll have the best advices, tour around and home cooked food. The room is super clean, bathroom, kitchen, living room and balcony are there. Location is great! If I have one place to recommend in Colombo, it would definetly be the House of Erskin!     Perfect as per usual. Good private rooms. Quiet but at the same time the loveliest rooftop with the best chats ever having a beer. Must for any backpacker. Don't underestimate Colombo and spend a couple of days there. 15 min tuktuk to town and 10 min walk to a top beach.

    The owner of the hotel is a very gentlemanly man. He has worked in a hotel in Tokyo for many years and speaks Japanese fluently. The breakfast is delicious, the rooms are clean, and the location is great. Overall, the value for money is excellent!
