We recently had the pleasure of extending our stay in Kyoto and decided to move to Kabin Taka after a wonderful experience at Kabin Koji, their sister property. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the seamless transition and the exceptional hospitality at both hotels. The staff was incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. One of the standout features of our stay was how spacious the rooms were, especially compared to the typical hotel rooms in Japan. There was actually enough room to fully open our suitcases, which made packing and unpacking so much easier and more comfortable. The room was beautifully appointed with modern amenities and offered a relaxing ambiance that made it feel like a true home away from home. Another thoughtful touch that stood out was the option to stow our luggage in secure area after check-out, complete with locks. This made it so much easier for us to explore Kyoto without having to worry about our bags. The location was ideal, with easy access to local attractions, and we especially appreciated the attention to detail throughout the hotel. Overall, our stay was nothing short of amazing. We are already looking forward to booking again on our next trip to Kyoto! Highly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable and comfortable stay in the city.

My partner and I stayed for 4 nights at this place while we were in Kyoto, and needless to say we loved it. The location was perfect, just a couple minutes to places that we frequent (Nishiki market, Weekenders coffee), and proximity to train stations wasn't bad either. The staff were great and very helpful when we needed something. We have nothing but good comments, and would very much like to come back again soon :)

Japan is not the old Japan back 10 years ago.

Japan is not the old Japan back 10 years ago. I want to see people speak Japanese to me instead of Chinese or English. Unfortunately, too many foreigners workers working on convenience stores etc. Although overcrowded everywhere, people are polite and in good manners that I see. Overall, we enjoy the trip very much! Will come back again because still lots of places that I want to visit or visit again!

Kyoto is a big city for someone like me, coming from a small and quiet country. The moment I arrived, I was amazed by how vibrant and full of life it was — every corner seemed to have something fascinating to see or experience. But if you don’t speak the language or plan ahead, it’s easy to feel a little lost in the fast pace and busyness. Thankfully, I was blessed to have friends there who guided me around, making it so much easier to explore and discover the beauty of Kyoto.

Kyoto is always fun to visit: because each destination’s ambience changes with the seasons, it is nearly impossible to exhaust the choices of temples, shrines and Japanese gardens to enjoy, even over multiple visits. Plus, Kyoto offers a wide range of dining alternatives. Looking for less crowded alternatives to the most popular sites such as Kiyomizudera and Fushimi Inari Shrine? Some choices to consider are Honen-in, Eikan-do, Okuno-in and Chion-in on the east side, Kennin-ji with its “dragon ceiling” in Gion, or Sanjusangendo not far from Kiyomizu Dera. If you are heading to the famous Kinkaku-ji, be sure to visit Ryoanji’s renowned garden, of course, and for a true escape from Kyoto’s crowds, wander through the quiet, extensive grounds of Myoshinji, where you absolutely must linger to admire the exquisite Japanese garden at Taizo-in. Out Arashiyama way, visit Otagi Nenbutsu-ji and Adashino Nenbutsu-ji, walk along the Saga Toriimoto Preserved Street and take a look at the moss garden at Gio-ji, before joining the throngs again when you end your stroll at the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest.

Tons of temples, shrines and gardens.

Tons of temples, shrines and gardens. Lots of shopping and restaurants. My partner has Celiacs disease and found Kyoto had the most options available, in general they seem to accommodate food restrictions more. The city is very busy with tourists and popular places do get quite busy. You need to go early to certain sites if you'd like less crowds.

Five stunning days in Kyoto, would have easily stayed longer. Our family of six loved the ease at which you can go from the exciting bustle of downtown Kyoto to the historical streets of Higashiyama and then out to wander the surrounding villages and back again.

Arashiyama (Bamboo Grove) - Go in the afternoon, its not as crowded Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple - a bit of a challenge to get here but was worth the challenge and was refreshing to get away from the city. Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pravillion) - A must for anyone going to Kyoto but be prepared for crowds at any time. Saryo Tsujiri Tea House - go here but leave time to line up and dine in. We had to do take away and was a little sad about this. Wander around the main streets of Kawaramachi Station and Gion on a Friday or Saturday night and along Kamon River. See people enjoying their evening, buskers and the night life. Unimpressed by Pontoncho Alley both during the day and night. There are better things to check out.

The hotel's location was extremely convenient. It is just across the street from the Hachijo East exit of Kyoto Station. Be careful exiting the station though, as finding the best exit to reach the hotel can be a bit confusing. The facilities of the hotel itself were great. The bathroom was clean and sizeable. The beds were comfortable. The staff was accommodating, and check in and out were a breeze.

Great small hotel in an excellent location. 10 metres from the subway station and a walk to many of Kyoto’s most famous sites, including the major art galleries and the Gion Geisha District. Free self-serve alcohol and snacks in the lovely lobby bar each night from 6-10 was a first for us. Modern room, comfortable bed and the best bathroom with separate shower and bath.

The lobby is very tranquil with a lovely lounge area watching a water & sand feature. The rooms are large and clean and was by far the most comfortable bed and room we had during our whole japan stay. Would 1000% stay here again.
