One week was the perfect way to enjoy the town and explore temples and shrines...and cute cafes! We recommend taking a walking tour to get a feel for the town and learn temple etiquette, etc.. In addition, we tried a few experiences - kintsugi golden joinery, woodcarving, and indigo dyeing. It was wonderful to meet the artisans and work with them (even though we are not terribly artistic!). The Hase-dera Shrine and the Great Buddha are awe-inspiring...
The Hase-dera Shrine and the Great Buddha are awe-inspiring and accessing them by local train is easy. By far the most beautiful shrine we have seen in our travels. I liked it all! Delightful from start to finish. I wanted a calm, manageable place to handle my jet lag and enjoy. I was not open or ready for Tokyo just yet. Kamakura filled the bill perfectly. My favorite part was Enoshima early in the morning before crowds decended. AND GOING to an absolutely, delightful old world Japanese sento bath in the neighborhood. The price/quality ratio was top notch. Really friendly staff and delucious meals. Be aware that it isn't 5 star hotel so don't expect fireworks :) I really enjoyed my stay there over Christmas time.
