Look Beyond the Leaning Tower

If you are in Pisa then the first stop is probably to snap a memorable picture of the famous Leaning Tower. Arrive early and you just might get a chance for a solo shoot! Go beyond this legendary experience and discover a maze of ancient cathedrals, buildings and squares in this historic town.

From the Pisa Centrale Train Station, the 30-minute walk to the Campo dei Miracoli is along a pedestrianised street packed with shops and restaurants. If you head outside the touristy area you will start to uncover the atmosphere created from the some 60,000 students who study here.

Appreciate masterful art at Museo di San Matteo and Romanesque architecture at the San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno, San Michele in Borgo and San Paolo Churches. If your feet are tired, then hop on and off one of the site-seeing buses to get a different look at the the Piazza dei Miracoli or Cathedral of St. Ranieri.

Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport is the gate to Tuscany and from here Florence, Siena and San Gimignano are easily accessed by bus or train. No matter whether Pisa is the final destination or you’re just passing through, Boooking.com can offer you over 90 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in this Italian city.

Once you've done the tower and cathedral, pay 5 euros more and walk the city walls for a quiet hour away from the crowds with great views of the city. You finish down by the river, and can then return through fascinating old streets to the centre.

I flew to Pisa to trek through the Cinque Terre.

I flew to Pisa to trek through the Cinque Terre. The city is home to more than just the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. It also boasts numerous monuments to prominent Italians and beautiful ancient architecture. In the city, you can buy groceries at supermarkets or visit a café to sample traditional Tuscan cuisine, drink delicious coffee, and sample desserts. I ate at the café "Bar & Food 62." Tuscan soup was 12 euros, baked eggplant with Parmesan was 12 euros, and a glass of white wine was 6 euros.

Pisa has enough interest to spend one day at the sights and exploring the city. It is nice that the main attractions are all in one place, on the Field of Miracles. Unfortunately, the cathedral was closed the day we visited. Pisa is close to Lucca and Florence; both worth a side trip by train- one day for Lucca a few for Florence.

Arrival at airport, usual procedures… Very good Pisamover driverless tram direct to Pisa Centrale.€6.5.,less than 10 minute trip. Bus station directly outside station.Number 1+ goes to Tower, ten minutes trip. Area around Tower is lovely to wander round, and into buildings( Cathedral is free entry with ticket ). Pisa is a good location for train journeys to Florence,Siena(one change),Lucca ( a lovely place to wander round),Viareggio and even a longer trip to Cinque Terre.

Pisa a wounderful place and from their one can go by train to other towns like Lucca and Firenze. The train station is in the central of the city and close to shops. Pisa is very clean and very safe by night and the residents are very kind with best restuants all over the town.

    Pisa was a real surprise.

Pisa was a real surprise. We'd visited the piazza dei miracoli a couple of times before, on day trips , but never explored the rest of the town, which was delightful! Away from the souvenir shops and crowds of the leaning tower, it was atmospheric, interesting, and rewarding to explore. Plenty of nice cafes and restaurants. You get a great view of the leaning tower et al from the walk on the city walls - with no other tourists about! (We walked the whole way round the walls, which we wouldn't necessarily recommend as you go past much less picturesque parts of the town, but you can get down at various points on the wall.). Botanic gardens a lovely, quiet oasis too.

A beautiful, historic hotel filled with art, architecture and amazing staff. The breakfast buffet was incredible and special shout-out to Sasha and team! The location right on the Arno river is exceptional, waking up to IMO one of the most beautiful views in Italy. Walking distance to museums, shops, cafes and restaurants (and the Leaning Tower...but there's so much else to see and do in Pisa!). Can't wait to return.

Friendly staff, restaurant inside the hotel (although I didn't take advantage of it), several restaurants nearby, 30-35min walk from the airport (probably 20min from Pisa Centrale train station), 5min away from city centre. Cleanliness - spot on. For a 2 star hotel, you couldn't ask for more.

Everything was amazing, we've been traveling Italy for two weeks now, and La Torre Garbata is the best place we have stayed by far. We could leave our bags there earlier and collect them later after checkout which made our stay in Pisa easier. Elisa and her staff were great

Really good location to the tower of Pisa, but not close to train station or airport. The room was nice, bathroom was the best I've had in italy. Staff were really nice and helpful
