This is our second time to beautiful Otranto. It's a gorgeous town, one of our very favorites in Italy. It has a leisurely calm that we find appealing, not to say that there isn't also a nightlife. Our favorite restaurant is Balconcino d"Oriente-exceptional food and great people there. Definitely worth having a car though to get out to the beaches nearby such as Laghi Alimini. Otranto city itself is not special for us and we had two BAD dinners there - imagine bad pizza in Italy! We much preferred the coastline and beaches in the surrounding area. Otranto has a charming, beautiful Altstadt.
Otranto has a charming, beautiful Altstadt. It has a wonderfully tiled big square along the harbor with lots of restaurants. The town's white washed houses are delightful. It has a nice cathedral with a huge, beautifully restord mosaic along the floor of the cathedral. Visiting the historic castello is advisable. So much to see and do, lovely, friendly atmosphere, with a beautiful port and castle and lots of wonderful restaurants to choose from! Excellent choice of restaurants both inland and on the promenade. Lots of shops selling local produce and souvenirs. Although the closest beach gets crowded there are other spots to swim off and other much larger beaches just up the coast . If you have a car. The castle is impressive and adds character to Otranto. Great base for exploring the southern tip of Italy with easy access to the main highways. We arrived late at night but the hosts were very amenable and friendly and even left us 2 little pots of homemade honey! The apartment is very spacious and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed. The outdoor hottub was incredible! 2 minutes walk to the castle and town. The style (eclectic)… surf vibe meets Africa.. the location ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ with a view as if you’re looking at the savannah while just being 8” of Otranto and beaches… the pool is great. The house (we had the premium one but the other looks also great) was large with great style and a lovely spacious outside area. It's absolutely lovely, gorgeous view over the harbour, ideal location in the old town, big terrace for outdoor breakfast, everything spotlessly clean and staff friendly and helpful, with excellent English (my Italian is sadly patchy at best).
