Payangan is about 20 - 30 minutes out of Ubud, depending on traffic. It is an excellent introduction to Balinese village life and the 'real' Bali. There are no facilities except some basic little general stores, and no ATM in the village. Outside of the hotels, there are no restaurants. The area is spectacularly beautiful however it cops a lot of rain and there can be land slides which cut road access. Our hotel (Adiwana Dara Ayu Villas) was a long way from other properties, so eating options (hotels, restaurants, local warungs) were non existent and sadly as the food in our hotel was abysmal (even the Indonesian was done badly) we skipped eating meals which diminished the pleasure of the holiday.Guest review byPenelopeAustralia

People are very friendly and helpful. We had a very nice massage. We took two times the service taxi to Ubud. It go’s 3 time a day and is free. We eat two times in the restaurant where we had a nice Indonesia food and the were very friendly. The resort is situated between rice fields and traditional Balinees people. The four poster bed was extremely comfortable. Room facilities were modern but retained traditional Balinese charm. Not well advertised, but the walkway passed stone carved cliff face and temple leading to a stairway all the way down to the Ayung River is well worth the effort. Wayan is the friendliest host on Bali, who also serves sitting meditation every evening to guests. Tranquil and serene vibe, in this place 20 min from Ubud.
