The water front is much the same as many port town island...
The water front is much the same as many port town island fronts. Vibrant and lively with restaurants, bars and cocktail/ice-cream parlours. The large marinas are full of small fishing boats, large fishing boats, flotilla holiday yachts, luxury yachts and flying dolphins. Aegina is the home to the best pistachio nuts in the world and they are on sale everywhere, that and local honey. One street back from the front is where the gift shops are and more restaurants. In theory the back streets are pedestrianised, but scooters wizz through them, so take care, particularly at intersections, they don't slow down. A colorful and vibrant island, with beautiful shops and excellent restaurants. Like everywhere in Greece, the locals are friendly, and the atmosphere is wonderful. When booking the ferry, pay attention—there are two ports on the island: one is the main port, and the other is secondary. The main port brings you closer to the livelier, more touristy area. We had 3 days in Aegina, which was good for us. Sufficient time to see the whole island, however, if you are to a beach holiday you could easily spend a week, as the island and the town has much to offer, especially the beautiful water and the great restaurants. Aegina is a very easy boat trip from Piraeus with about 10 ferries daily. It is beloved by Athenian day trippers so the boats, the towns and the beaches can be extremely crowded. It still retains a lot of charm and is well worth a visit. However, once official summer begins with the Whit Bank Holiday weekend it would be necessary to book everything - ferries, restaurants, taxis - in advance. There is a very limited bus service so plan your visit around the timetables, otherwise you will be faced with long queues for very expensive taxis. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars but don't go expecting a bargain - meals and drinks are expensive enough unless you shop around. In Marathonas we recommend Stratigos (excellent value) and Ammos (wonderful daily specials).Guest review byTerry

The AC didn’t work the first night and the receptionist had it fixed right away the next day. We also got really helpful tips to explore the island. The bed was a bit hard. Being so close to the port was very convenient. The only down side is the noise of the ships and the playground in front of the hotel. Don't believe Google maps, it is not ten minutes. The owners are incredibly kind people, as well their cleaning lady. The service was incredible. The rooms are quaint, quiet and have everything you need for a short or long term stay. Even the beds, pillows and bedding were exceptionally comfortable, which is rare.
