The hotel was in a good location within walking distance to the town of Windemere and Bowness-on-Windermere which had a lot more to offer than the actual town of Windermere. A lovely place to visit. Lots of good local shops, cafes and restaurants that were nearby. Buses 599 open top available to get to other places and train station with good connections if you don't want to drive. We enjoyed visiting Ambleside, Bowness, Coniston and Grasmere. We took a boat out on Windermere from Low Woods, the car ferry to Hawkeshead and the boat trip on Lake Coniston. A walk down to the lake directly from Windermere via Birthwaite Road leads you to two small jetties where people were swimming, paddle boarding and people watching. In Windermere, Home Ground Cafe is a great place for breakfast but be prepared to queue. Tillys bar did a good fish and chips. Cafe Italia for pizza etc.Guest review byJulieUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Wonderful. The staff at Mountain Goat Windemere Tourist info are amazing and knowledgeable and helpful. Great info centre. Beautiful town. Regular bus service and train service makes it so easy for travellers. The walks and lakes and tarns are so fantastic. Loved it all. Best meal was at Lamplighter hotel. Gymasium, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room are included in the price. Free mooring for the boat belongs to any of the hotel guests. The hotel also runs the Low Wood Bay Water Sports Centre with a private beach on the shore of the lake. Beautiful senary. Ample car parking. Two excellent fine dining restaurants.
