I want to start by saying that we travel quite often, we have been to many places in the last three years,but this house is special and has won our hearts!! It is perfect for a 100% British experience! Maximum cleanliness, attention to detail and super kind and discreet hosts! We were even welcomed with a cake made by the host especially for us! We received fresh eggs from the free-range chickens! We received fruit from the hosts! There is also coffee, tea at your discretion!! In the cupboards there are provisions (canned food, pasta, beans, rice) that you can use and replace later! There is a beautiful courtyard where you can drink your coffee! The house is chic, recently renovated, we enjoyed the intimacy of this house! Thank you for this authentic experience that we were really looking for!

Bed was super comfy, large bathroom with nice fresh towels provided. The room wasn’t huge but perfect for 2 people. It was a nice touch to have fresh milk and cold water in the fridge provided. Really big mirror for getting ready. Clothes steamer provided, which you don’t often see. We had lovely weather so we were fortunate to utilise the courtyard space, this is shared with the other room but plenty of space for you all to sit. We went in the pub and had a few drinks on Saturday night, it’s a nice local with friendly people and staff. We went to bed around 10pm, there was noise from the pub still but it wasn’t overly loud and we were expecting it considering we knew we were staying at a pub, though it does still feel private and out of the way. It’s great to have a back entrance so you don’t have to walk through the pub if you don’t want to. The location didn’t really matter for us but it was perfectly centrally located!

West Mersea had a lovely feel to it, like a place that is...

West Mersea had a lovely feel to it, like a place that is lived in, with many visiting weekenders. We walked along the beach and it was a delight. Sunsets were truly beautiful. We ate in the Coast Inn, which was OK, and the Waterside Pizza place, which was excellent. Fish & Chips from the Mersea Fish Bar were good too; huge portions or well cooked food. Great base for exploring Essex.

It is a place for relaxation with friends and family. There is a small fishing harbour nearby with some more activity / traffic and people strolling around but we did not have much time to engage.

It is get away from it type of place, some good walks both along the coast and through the countryside. If you like seafood then Mersea is a great place to go to. Watching the sunsets over West Mersea beach is very special.

West Mersea is a charming seaside community with lots of...

West Mersea is a charming seaside community with lots of interest in the harbour area. There was a children’s event in full swing when we arrived and the sense of family community was very strong. Later in our stay we went crabbing on the pontoon with the grandchildren. Great fun! Everybody was friendly and welcoming. There are many places to eat for all tastes, numerous walks, beaches and views of the estuary.

The village was lovely and dog friendly, nice little places...

The village was lovely and dog friendly, nice little places for coffee and food, lovely fish and chip shop plus kebab shop, worth the money as well, lot of food for your money. Lots of places to visit. I would say driving would be best. I will be visiting again.

I have visited Mersea Island many times over the years, I absolutely love West Mersea and feel at home as soon as I arrive there. On this most recent stay we spent the Saturday evening at The White Hart in High Street where we had a lovely meal and drinks. We will definitely return to eat there again.
