Stroud is a town with plenty of character.
Stroud is a town with plenty of character. There are many independent shops and alternative lifestyles are welcome. There are many coffee shops and restaurants. We especially enjoyed The Curio restaurant, King St, Woodruffs coffee shop and Rajat Indian restaurant. We walked along the canal to Stroud Brewery which has a good bar and restaurant. That was an easy walk. We walked up Swifts Hill, Slad Valley and had a drink in the Woolpack, not so easy but very enjoyable. Stroud was not the focus of our trip, but since you ask I'd say that its former condition was probably rather better than its current condition. It doesn't do well when compared with Cirencester which really is a town worth visiting. Stroud is pleasant enough and good for shopping. Minchinhampton Common .'The Bear' in an excellent position for walkers. Fantastic views over the valley. Good for golfers. Livestock graze on the common. Roman ruins nearby in Cirencester. Lovely places to eat - lovely country views - travelled by...
Lovely places to eat - lovely country views - travelled by bicycle. Lots of hills so at times you have to walk it but we enjoyed ourselves. Travelled by train would recommend making reservations for your bicycles. Ate at Egypt Mill, Casa Sabor and The Bear at Rodborough and loved the food at the Five Valleys. Everything that is promised is there, and always a bit more. It is a model of how a self-catering property should be managed, particularly the friendly contact with guests before and during the stay. The location, just above a full Waitrose store open till 2100 Mo-Sa, and a quite short walk from the town centre and rail station, is ideal.
