Everything was absolutely perfect! The location is fantastic, with a breathtaking view of the sea to wake up to. The breakfast was great, and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. The entire hotel is beautifully decorated with high-quality materials, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. There are also wonderful books available to read, which adds to the charm. The hotel has a Wes Anderson vibe, and it’s one of those rare places where you feel like you could live there. A special mention goes to the hallway leading to the rooms, which showcases the remnants of Margate’s history, almost like a small museum!

Simon was a great host. He was very friendly and welcoming, and very informative about the area with great tips on restaurants. He immediately came to greet us on arrival. The apartment was really nice with exceptional views. Simon provided us with croissants, cereals, milk etc for breakfast which was a real bonus.

I'm not in the habit of leaving 10/10 reviews, but in this case I am compelled to do so as I cannot find a fault with Shenandoah House, and our host Jim. We visited Jim's guesthouse for our birthdays as the last stop of a short road-trip after a work event. We expected the usual seaside guesthouse experience - you know the type, where the stay is "okay" but all the little problems add up into one disappointingly average stay. This is not one of those guesthouses. Jim's Shenandoah House is an old guesthouse renovated the modernised, but with such care and attention to detail that the charm of the house remains intact yet the consideration of the guest has clearly been at the forefront of Jim's mind throughout the entire process. The guesthouse is ideally located near the main road, with on-site parking available for two cars, but just far away from busy areas to be both easily within walking distance and super quiet. Granted, we stayed off-season, but we cannot imagine noise being an issue. The room we stayed in was on the top floor, with a view down the street towards the beach. It was quiet, cosy, and comfortable, with an ideal ensuite bathroom. The bed was so comfortable, it provided the best night's sleep we had on our short trip! The continental breakfast was incredible - something you would expect at a large hotel, with a variety of choice. Again, the level of attention to detail here did not go unnoticed. This place is an absolute gem, and you shouldn't think twice to stay here. We will gladly be back!

In the 70's Margate/Cliftonville was fabulous a hive of activity...the beaches was jam packed with people...the high street was fabulous..but now high street has hardly anything shops a lady stopped me to ask where the high street was...I said your in it...! Very sad looking area now... Where the pier used to be there's now some awful modern monstrosity of a building looking like metal huge boxes...supposedly an art gallery I heard...really awful looking 😖 Around to Cliftonville the Winter gardens looked derelict as well as the Lido area...and the Llidoo swimming pool was filled in with cement donkeys years ago and the walls of pool are now falling into the sea..sad!...when I think back how these places was a hive off activity and all guest houses packed...now your hard pushed to find one...but i did and it was great

We had a lovely time and found lovely places to eat. They catered for our special needs of glutton free for us all. Lafayette's food lovely and all welcoming and helping to give us the correct food for our particular needs which are many. Nothing was too much trouble. In really nice surroundings so went there three times in two days. Enjoyed going to the Shell Grotto very interesting and the Crab Museum great for the kiddies.

I had heard it was up-and-coming.

I had heard it was up-and-coming. With money spent on it it could be a beautiful Victorian seaside resort. The Old Town was interesting and with lovely shops and eateries. We loved the coastline. Great Viking walking trail. The Turner Contemporary was lovely. The Opex Gardens were excellent - with a garden centre and many activities for families. Some nice surrounding places to visit were Deal and Walmer, Sandwich and Canterbury. I believe Minnis Bay coast is very attractive. There was an interesting Nature park near Birchington.

Margate is abit rundown in places but the old town was great and restaurants we enjoyed especially GB Pizza co it was on the seafront and we could sit outside in the evening. Dreamland is getting better there are alot of rides there especially for kids. A good traditional seaside town and lots of things to do in easy walking distance. The beach is great.

Margate is a very tatty and tacky seaside town.

Margate is a very tatty and tacky seaside town. Its centre by the pleasant sandy beach is an eyesore of casinos and abandoned buildings. Judging by the number of police cars on a Friday night it must have more than its fair share of crime. The Turner museum was a disappointment, having only a single Turner painting along with some modern art that was underwhelming. Clearly its heyday was 200 years ago as it is now utterly charmless.

Staying here made us love Margate even more! The views from the lounge/ kitchen area and two bedrooms are lovely and utterly relaxing for someone coming from a busy urban area like London. The rooms are spacious and the terrace incredible for some sun lounging. The two bathrooms are perfect for a family of 4, and the luxurious bathtub with the sun roof offered an additional relaxation area. The flat is also very central and offers a lovely walk to the Margate Sands.

We were in attendance for the yearly Margate Soul Festival, so booked relatively late, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this accommodation. The apartment was a little gem inside a fairly tired building, which was once a hotel, I believe. The flat had a cosy ‘boutique’ feel about it which I especially liked, but it felt like ‘home from home’. Comfortable bed, great shower, and all the amenities you could wish for! 😊

The Walpole Bay Hotel has a lovely traditional, oldie-worldly atmosphere about it, a refreshing change from the “could be anywhere” style of modern hotel chains. The staff are delightful, the location is great, and they provide an outstanding “worth the stay on its own” breakfast.
