With the rail links, it is a perfect centre for travellers, as public transport is relatively poor. Travelled by a friend's car to places like Monmouth and Coleford, and it is possible to go to Gloucester and Cheltenham by train. I didn't need to eat out much, as breakfasts were huge, and the Swan did lovely food, including sandwiches. Not a lot to do in Lydney, but as a solo traveller, I felt very comfortable sitting in the bar in the evening - the landlady even bought me a drink!

    Very accommodating.

Very accommodating. We were allowed to check out a bit later due to our doing a local, parkrun. Gave us a light breakfast earlier than normal to let us get to Mallards Pike parkrun. Food in the evening good.

As a disabled wheelchair (mobility scooter user) the bathroom was an excellent wet room with walk in shower grab handles etc. The room was large with an extra wide door so easy to get mobility scooter in and out. Continental breakfast brought to your room. Staff were all super helpful. It was easy to scoot around Lydney, there was a TESCO just down the road. Several good food pubs and take aways.

Friendly helpful staff couldn’t do enough for us.

Friendly helpful staff couldn’t do enough for us. Room was quirky and comfortable. No ensuite, private bathroom across the corridor to us. Not ideal and unaware of this until we checked in. They did offer to move us to en-suite double for the 2nd night which was great. Breakfast was excellent and would go back. The Great Wall Chinese takeaway is excellent. Just a short walk from hotel. Steam railway tour through forest fab too

Lydney is a convenient spot on the edge of the Forest of Dean. It has bus links to the Forest, Gloucester and Chepstow and rail links from Gloucester to South Wales. Although it has a range of restaurants and takeaways, the pubs tend to close early (9pm) during the week, staying open later at the weekend

Small town with all you need for a comfortable stay.

Small town with all you need for a comfortable stay. Supermarkets, pub, takeaways, and restaurants all good, but no so much to do in the twon itself. A walk around the harbour and along the clifftop recommended. Great base to explore Chepstow; Ross on Wye; Monmouth; and the Forest of Dean.

We have used deangate motel on around 4 occasions now when my grandparents come and visit. Their rooms are large and accessible which is great for them due to their mobility. It's easy to find and the rooms are always well equipped and clean

My partner and I felt very welcomed and looked after during our stay at the Swan Tea Room. The accomodations were exceptional and the facilities were plentiful. The breakfast was very good, probably the best we've had for a long time.

A brilliantly equipped kitchen which was great for cooking, lovely shower, great location for exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Recommend breakfast at the Parkend Cafe a short walk from the accomodation.

Breakfast was lovely, full English. Location next to main dual carriageway so bit noisy but to be expected as obvious where hotel was located. Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic!
