Sophisticated Victorian Spa Town
The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.
The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.
One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.
Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.
Options on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments near the train station, and guest houses with parking. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport to the south.

Harrogate is a beautiful town with lots of lovely shops including independent ones too. So many eating places you are spoilt for choice. Betty’s tea rooms are a must. Definitely a nice place to get away to from inner city. Saw the difference in terms of wealth and poverty; in relation to where i come from and even visiting Leeds after......thought provoking. I only saw 1 street person near the War Memorial. Many independent shops and cafes. Generally people were receptive and pleasant. Many places to eat of many varieties, .......that was very eye opening and not your typical chains. Monkey & Drum was good for fish dinner. Mamma Doreen ...loved the vibe and definitely my venue of choice fir Afternoon tea. Overall we really enjoyed time and would visit again.Guest review bygolding - 10.0

Harrogate is a busy city centre with loads of places to eat and shop. It's a lovely walking city, but you also have the ability to pay and park. Be prepared to pay everywhere you park; that is the downside. Harrogate has a lovely high street, but you can find affordable items in many shops downtown. You are also close to other market towns such as Skipton, Ripon, Pateley Bridge, and more. All towns offer wonderful things to do for couples and/or families.Guest review byShelby - 10.0

Harrogate is lovely - plenty of shops - little boutiques and a variety of Restaurants and Bars - we stayed for one night and went to Bettys Tea Rooms for Afternoon tea - Nightlife is quieter than most towns but there are bars which cater for all tastes and ones that stay open late - we went to the Blues Cafe Bar which has Live Music 7 x day per week.
