Dunwich is a super place in which to stay .

Dunwich is a super place in which to stay . It is within easy reach of places of interest to visit . Dingle Barns is to be highly recommended as a quality place to stay . My previous negative comments re cleaning of room etc I now regret , as perhaps this should not have been expected . The bed was so comfortable , the shower was excellent and we had a beautiful room . Amanda was a first class hostess .

A charming, historic village with much to offer.

A charming, historic village with much to offer. The Marsh and Beach (National Trust) are ideal for walkers, dog owners, bird watchers & those who enjoy a peaceful setting. Dunwich is also close to RSPB Minsmere. The village museum is informative, well presented & staffed by enthusiastic volunteers. The Ship Inn, a popular destination serving locally sourced seafood. Whilst the Beach Cafe appeared to be a big favourite with dog walkers. Adjacenyt a tiny fishing hut gallery features regional arts & crafts. Suffolk coastal delicacies, samphire, sea rosemary, sea broccoli etc. are sold on an ad hoc basis by locals. The easy to follow cliff track starting close to the beach takes a direct route to the impressive ruins of Greyfriars Abbey & the sight of the last grave remaining from the final Dunwich church to fall into the sea. The current village church, St. James, is an unpretentious nineteenth century construction with the ruins of the medieval Leper Hospital & the last buttress of the above mentioned cliff fall church in the churchyard.

Dunwich is a lovely and quaint place to visit.

Dunwich is a lovely and quaint place to visit. Lovely walks in the Heather and near a bracing beach. It was very quiet and friendly in the village and around. Dunwich heath overlooks the beach from up high with a visitors centre. Parking is reasonable or free and sometimes voluntary. Not many places to eat except pubs. Or shops but nice if you want to get away from it all.

Dunwich is a tiny place but well known in Norfolk and Suffolk for walks and bird-watching as well as the history of the lost town, so don't go there for the night-life. However it is a great base to visit nearby Walberswick, Westleton, Southwold and a bit further Aldeburgh - either by car, bike or on foot depending on weather and mobility. Great area for dog walkers. We stayed and ate in The Ship Inn, and for the second night we ate at The Crown in Westleton 2.5 miles away. We were late in the season so the village museum was closed but there was other interpretation around, and ruins to visit. Unless you have a car or bike, you would need to be on a walking tour as it is a long way from anywhere by foot. There is a 6.5mile round walk to Southwold I believe

The location is the best bit - 2 minutes walk away from Dunwich beach. Free parking at the beach. Parking at the hotel is also very good, if one's room is in the annex, one can park right outside the room. The staff is laid back and overall very friendly and helpful. The pub food was ok but not wonderful.
