    The cathedral is a must see.

    The cathedral is a must see. And some good shops, cafes and restaurants. Haven't been there for several years and it's come on a lot. In a good way. The people are so nice. The whole town is easily walkable and there is a good bakery near the cathedral to pick up a picnic. It's a good idea because the food on the ferries isn't always great.Also a large Leclerc nearby

    Coutances is a fairly wealthy town but not chi chi like La...

    Coutances is a fairly wealthy town but not chi chi like La Touquet or Deauville. Nice shops a wonderful cathedral, beautiful gardens easy access to places like Granville or D-Day beaches. The best place to stay is Hotel Tanqueray de la Rochaiserie, a magnificent and beautiful town hose just around the corner from the cathedral. 6 stars for the place and the genial host, Gilles. Wonderful breakfast as well. Kalamansi is a great place to eat in Coutances, down by the theatre, go for the chefs special menu. If you want the best fruits de mer go to Le Phare down on the port at Granville

    Classic French town dominated by churches especially the RC...

    Classic French town dominated by churches especially the RC cathedral. A few good restaurants and bars plus a superb themed botanical gardens. Cocktails in Le Club were excellent. Home cooking in A 3 Pas was tasty. Flowers throughout the town were very impressive. Good location for sightseeing and onward travel.

    Secure car parking. The breakfast selection. The staff were polite and courteous, especially remembering we had requested at the time of booking oat milk at breakfast. It's very good as a 1 night stopover hotel as it's just off the main roads, but set back enough that you don't hear any traffic noise. Although there's not a restaurant for evening dinner, there's an American diner right next door. Not admittedly French cuisine, but wholesome food all the same.

    Warm welcome from lovely hosts, who also gave very good local information, directions etc. 15 minutes walk from the centre of Coutances. Eexcellent safe parking for our bicycles. Spotless, bright, large bedroom with sink in room. Shared shower room (we had sole use during our stay) was also spotless. The breakfast was above average,, with a very good variety of fresh bread, pastries and home made jams as well as cheese and ham. A really lovely stay.

    The room was fab. It was large, the bed was cozy, there was a place to sit and eat in the room. The bathroom and shower were roomy. The room was spotless. And best of all, it was quiet. The location was excellent, as I cam to Coutances to photograph the cathedral and this room is practically across the street from the cathedral. I was a little hesitant to rent a room in someone's house but this experience has motivated me to do this again.

    We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Tanquerey. Gilles is an excellent host and looked after us perfectly. The attention to detail is superb. As well as the magnificent bedroom we had use of two fabulous living rooms, and there is a garden. We really loved this little Gem of a place in lovely Coutances, and without doubt is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Thank you, Gilles .

    Clement at reception went above and beyond to accommodate our late arrival by nearly 3 hours. He then took it upon him self to organise a taxi to meet us at Coutances station when I said we didn’t have one, unaware that there wasn’t many options at that time. Thank you Clement!
