Breakfast was really good - gluten-free bread provided on request. Loved the "dolce de leche" (caramelised milk) Situation was perfect - very quiet, parking on site and lovely gardens but only 5 to 10 mins walk from the centre.

We loved our stay at Belle Normandy. The location is perfect, with beautiful grounds right on the edge of town, only a five minute walk to the cathedral and all the shops and restaurants. Our kids enjoyed the basketball hoop and would have stayed at the hotel much longer if they could have! The staff were amazing. They were friendly and helpful on recommendations, and they also seem very proud of the hotel, which was renovated from an old school. It is a very special place, and I highly recommend it.

We spent two nights at this hotel, and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more. The interior is decorated with a unique and artistic eye—you’ll keep discovering charming little design details everywhere you look. There’s also a small, lovely back terrace where we enjoyed our breakfast surrounded by flowers. Our room was exceptionally clean and tidy, and everything worked perfectly. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. The location of the hotel is simply perfect. But what truly sets this place apart isn’t just the beautiful space or the practical amenities—it’s the warmth, thoughtfulness, and genuine hospitality of the owners. It’s clear that they run their boutique hotel with love and care, doing everything they can to make guests feel welcome and at home. Their passion is evident in every little detail. I will definitely be coming back. Five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Our hotel room was very spacious and comfortable, located in a beautiful city that is very walkable with many restaurants close by. Our favorite restaurant during our stay was Bonbonne. I'd recommend getting a reservation, you won't want to miss it. Great cocktails (try Tonka Fever) and many great plates, and lots of gluten free options that my husband appreciated. We took the local city walking tour and the BayeuxShuttle all day D-Day tour and would recommend both.

FAQs about hotels in Bayeux

Rich History and Medieval Beauty

Bayeux is a medieval French town in the region of Lower Normandy, known for the 11th-century Bayeux Tapestry which depicts scenes from the conquest of England by William the Conquerer in 1066. Registered by UNESCO as ‘Memory of the World’, this historic tapestry is 70 metres long and gives us information about the way of life in the Middle Ages.

The Norman-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral has impressive stained glass windows, bas-relief sculptures and a crypt with 15th-century frescoes beneath its floor. Consecrated in 1077, this structure is the place where the Bayeux Tapestry was kept for about seven centuries.

Opened in 1864, the botanical garden of Bayeux, which is home to the popular Weeping Beech tree and about 400 more trees, is open daily for free. You can wander around the picturesque old part of the city or visit the vibrant city centre with the modern shops and restaurants.

Crossed by the Aure River and situated on the train route to Paris, Bayeux is 7 km from the coast of the English Channel and 20 km from Caen – Carpiquet Airport. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Bayeux and the city of Caen.

Beautiful town, great location to take a trip to Normandy beaches. The tapestries were moved to the UK and the Tapestry museum closed on Sept 1st for two years! Most restaurants were closed on Sunday and Monday and you definitely need a reservation for dinner if you want a good meal. some restaurants were closed on Tuesday too! If you take a full day tour of Normandy I would suggest staying the night at Bayeux because there is traffic at the end of the day heading back to Paris.

Bayeux is a lovely, well-maintained, safe and easily walkable town. We used it as a base for three full-day tours to the Normandy beaches and Mont Saint-Michel, so we only had time to explore the Cathedral on our own. Unfortunately, the Bayeux Tapestry had been temporarily removed by the time we arrived, so we did not get to visit that. It is advisable to make restaurant reservations if there are ones you do not want to miss, but seeing the sites was more of our priority. We were willing to eat around 6:30 or 7:00 and we did not have any problem finding a satisfactory meal.

Bayeux is a small town, but is centrally located to get to Mont St Michael and D-Day activities. Not much to do in the town itself. There was one highlight in the town itself and that was the restaurant La Rapiere. We had a great dining experience there.

Upon entering Bayeux we were stunned by the beauty of the Cathedral. The town itself was lovely and we enjoyed the markets. We were sad not to be able to see the Bayeux tapestry as it was being restored. No worries, we will just return in two years time. Of course, WWII had a huge impact on Normandy and Bayeux. We visited the landing beaches easily from Bayeux and the war museum at Bayeux is not to be missed. The largest second world war cemetery is to be found in Bayeux also.

Bayeux is a 35 min taxi ride from the ferry in Ouistraham (which is Caen on their schedule). There are busses to nearby sites (Arromanches), but usually once per day is your option. You spend a lot more time relying on the bus, but taxis are very expensive and not plentiful. I loved the town of Bayeux itself-very quaint, and walkable. I found the Tourist Information center to be extremely helpful and they speak great English. She helped me with getting the bus, where to go, and how to pay (you need 2 Euros in cash-there is no cards on the bus).

This hotel is in a great quiet spot with secure parking and yet only a 10 minute walk to the centre. The staff on reception are lovely and helpful. Breakfast was the best we had in Normandy and we toured quite a few locations on our trip. Great fresh fruit, yoghurt and seeds/nuts etc, selection of fresh breads and pastries and crepes. Also eggs and meats and cheeses. Good tea, coffee and juices. The room had good storage and the shower was powerful.

This charming little maisonette is ideally placed for a visit to Bayeux: 10 minutes from the Tapestry Museum and Cathedral and just a few minute's walk from the town centre. Clean and comfortable, there is a sheltered courtyard and a glassed-in sunroom if the weather is not sufficiently good to sit outside. Set well back from the road, it is quiet too! A major asset is the parking place included with the let.
