Fisterra is a quaint, small fishing town, with regular daily catches. So near the harbour is does smell of fish but many of the local restaurants have a great reputation for sea food. There are several great places to walk for the day; coastal paths, beaches (Fora, & Arnela) are a good walk (3-6 miles) but really worth it. We had spent two weeks walking the Camiño and wanted to visit Finisterre for the sunset, the day trip timings didn’t work so we hired a car from the station in Santiago, drove 75mins, stayed the night and drove back to the airport the following day. I felt compelled to go to the "end of the earth" where the ancients though that the spirits of the dead disappeared from the land and over the horizon, headed for whatever comes next. In Galacian this Camino is called "the Way of the Dead.) I thought I would see the ancient Roman lighthouse but it has long since been replaced by a functional one. Beautiful old harbour town, full of history. The town is on the small side, so I would not spend more than two days there. Great walk to the near Lighthouse...sunsets are magical, don't miss them. At the lighthouse they have a restaurant and a bar too, From Finisterre you have a great view of the bay and there is a beautiful beach near-by. The town offers a lot of fish restaurants but I was not impressed with them. My suggestion is to get the car and to explore the other Capes in the Costa de la Muerte or to reach the other villages - less tourist orientated.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom
