Leticia is the city you will reach to start your Amazonas adventures. We spent one night in town before we traveled up the river. After a long travel to reach Leticia, I would highly recommend spending a night or two in town before heading out on the river. Leticia is very safe and friendly, with plenty of stores, restaurants, bars, cafes, and more. There are plenty of police, soldiers, and coast guard. We walked from the airport to our downtown hotel, but the sidewalks and roads are rough. There are many inexpensive taxis, tuk-tuks, and even moto taxis (motorcycles). Leticia is full of beautiful nature, great food and amazing people. I went in January, which is winter/rainy season in Leticia. There were several days that rained, but in general the weather was great. Since it's next to Brasil and Peru, you can enjoy cuisine from different countries with decent price. Not to mention, nature and animals are must see. I didn't know but there are many 2-3 days tours. If you would like to have unforgettable experience, it's definitely worth trying. Also people are so nice. I often experienced, as a foreigner, people try to overcharge for service. But in Leticia, never happened. People were not pushy, very honest.Guest review byショウカJapan - 8.0
The Amazon is awesome!
The Amazon is awesome! Being in a place where you can go to Peru and or Brazil in a day is fun. We felt very comfortable with the Tuk Tuk and cab drivers. * Most of them we had summoned for us. * Pay attention in town. We were not there at night but we never experienced anything but great people. And yes, buy your tickets a day in advance for Puerto Nariño trips and stay overnight. Each one made you feel welcome and at home. The hotel has many open-air areas which gives a fresh and cool feel to the hotel. My room was massive. Good air-con. Fridge/mini bar in the room. Large, comfortable bed. Nice, pool area. Great after a hot day out and about. Small but fresh buffet breakfast-eggs made to order. Good quality meals served in the evening using local produce. Johnatan, the professor and the rest of the staff will make the rest of the magic. This is the best hostel that I aver visited in Colombia so far in my almost 2 months of travel. The energy of it together with that of the forest is almost graspable. The hotel is on the outside of the town meaning that it is very quiet. Of course, this means that you have to walk 10 minutes into town.
