Brilliant if you have any interest in WW1.
Brilliant if you have any interest in WW1. I recommend visiting Passendale Museum with authentic trenches although these are not original you really get the sense of what they were like at the beginning of the war and Sanctuary Woods Museum where there are still original trenches although obviously after over 100 years they are not as pristine as Passendale. Both are only 15 - 20 mins away by car or motorbike. The Menin Gate in Ypres (Ieper - that's eeeper not leper to the Belgian people) is a must and the last post played every night at 20.00hrs is not be missedGuest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Close to all the WW1 sites which were easy to drive to.

Ypres is a very walkable town, steeped in history and sympathetically reconstructed to offer a great base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. Highly recommend In Flanders Fields museum and the nightly Menin Gate ceremony. There are many good restaurants in the main plaza. An interesting Vlaanderen city (A small one) that is packed with fine architecture and history. I enjoy good beer and Ieper has lots of it. It has some good restaurants plus fast food places and shops for groceries etc. As a base, you are near to the coast and other places of interest. I visit at least once a year and I always find something to keep me interested. My Dutch is very limited but a simple "spreek je Engels?" will usually get a reply in English, "Of course!" so good for UK visitors.Guest review byAlanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We visited for family reasons and the trip perfect. Everyone we met was extremely welcoming and kind. Last post ceremony was incredibly moving as was visiting Menin Gate. Exceptional City, easy to get around. A visit to the tourist information centre, next to Flanders Fields musium is a must, they provide you with an extensive infomation pack. This does include vouchers. The people appeared to be both very helpfull and friendly. Dining out was a pleasure prices very reasonable, not as expensive as thought.Guest review byShephard
