Ksamil is emerging as a tourist destination & the centre of the town at least seems to have opted to cater for those who prefer loud music / water activities on the beaches. That said, there is a good selection of bars & restaurants both in the centre of the town and on the main road into it. The hotel in which we stayed (Area Hotel) was excellent. Public transport is ok - there is a bus every 30 mins to Sarande or Butrint BUT it is packed & an experience in itself! Fares are 150 Lek (1.5 euro) each way. Taxis are available but cost approx 30 euro each way. Although card payment is accepted in most restaurants / hotels etc, it seems as though cash is king in Albania. Ksamil is a very beautiful resort with numerous stunning beaches and crystal-clear azure waters. There are plenty of quality restaurants offering delicious food at reasonable prices. The only drawback is that almost all beach spots are paid, meaning you need to pay for sunbeds and umbrellas. The cheapest spots started at around €15 for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella, while more premium locations charged €30 to €40 per set. Luxury cabana-style spots could cost up to €70 per day. Almost everywhere accepted euros, so it was not necessary to exchange money into the local currency. Alternatively, you could pay in euros and receive change in the local currency (Albanian lek). The beaches are extremely beautiful and clean.
The beaches are extremely beautiful and clean. Renting sunbeds/umbrellas can be quite pricy. If you go in the afternoon they would charge you the same price on some beaches. Driving in Ksamil can be quite hectic. The streets are quite narrow and not all the streets have pavements and on streets where they are present either they are taken up by shops or else the people do not use the land walk in the middle of the road. Be careful if you are driving there especially during rush hour and parking is not easy. The restaurants are really good. We tried a lot of them and the food is delicious and most of them have very reasonable prices. We were always treated nicely from the staff.Guest review byJean PaulMalta - 6.0
The people are amazing.
The people are amazing. They are all friendly and acomodating, and almost everyone speaks great english. The food is delicious! We went to several restaurants and all the food is great. Butrint national park is a must see. Although I highly recommend going there early (before 10 AM) to get a parking spot. Otherwise you will park 1 km-2km away and walk in the sun. The infrastructure is horrible. There are too many hotels and the roads are narrow and there are no or very little sidewalks. It is dangerous to walk around with small children because in august it was filled with cars that were driving too fast on those roads. Вистинско достигнување е да се стигне од Скопје до Ксамил. За жал инфраструктурата во Албанија е далеку од потребното за брзо и безбедно патување. Градот Ксамил се гуши во сообраќајен хаос. Недостасуваат паркинзи, клупи за одмор, пешачки патеки, корпи за отпадоци и најважното на плажите нема тушеви ! Плажите наликуваат на фавели и движењето е прилично отежнатао. Истакнувам дека има неколку плажи и барови кои отскокнуваат со уреденоста, понудата, но и цените се високи. Ксамил обилува со одлични ресторани каде за пристојна сума на пари може да се добие одличен оброк. We would recommend much more time at this hotel- our stay was far too short with plenty to do a short drive, best beaches, incredible mesmerising sunsets and heaps of great restaurants . The family who ran the hotel were the most helpful of our 8 day Albanian holiday. Thank you to the kind and informative family. Right in the center of town, close to supermarket, restaurants & bars, 5 mins walk to the beach, near bus stop to Saranda. Hotel was very clean. The room was comfortable with plenty of room, kitchen facilities and a balcony with a lovely view out to the lagoon.
