Everything was good, especially the bath/onsen!

This 3-star ryokan offers a housekeeping service and private check-in and check-out. Tsuta Hot Spring is 36 km away and Hirosaki Castle is 22 km from the ryokan. This is a traditional Japanese ryokan with public baths (gender separated). Dinner and breakfast are amazing and plentiful, with locally sourced organic produce (even coffee!). Our room (Japanese room with private toilet) was to the left of the entrance. It was very spacious. The heater worked very well as autumn night was a bit damp and cold. The beds are futons on wood bed frames on tatami, and they are super comfortable. As I have a whole-leg tattoo which is usually not permitted in the public baths, I notified Ranko in advance, and she reserved the private bath for us. The private bath was a very beautiful blue ceramic bath filled with warm (I don’t think it’s very hot) healing hot spring water from the area. Ranko’s warm personality really made the stay memorable. Be sure to ask her for recommendations of the areas. She is a well of knowledge of the area!

Minpaku Suzuki is set in Hiraizumi, less than 1 km from Motsuji Temple, 2.5 km from Chuson-ji Temple, and 5.5 km from Takkoku Seikou-ji Temple. With free WiFi, this 1-star homestay offers luggage storage space and bicycle parking. The homestay features family rooms. The Suzukis are wonderful hosts! The traditional japanese room is big and spacious, and while no bath is available on premise, Mr. Suzuki drove me to both a public bathhouse and local restaurant in the evenings. Mrs. Suzuki had a very large and delicious japanese meal cooked up for breakfast. The pair were even kind enough to help me plan out my trip around the local area after breakfast! Located a short walk away from Hiraizumi station and an even shorter walk to the nearby Mōtsū-ji, I highly recommend Minpaku Suzuki to anyone interested in staying in Hiraizumi! Will definitely be planning another stay!

The house is old and beautiful.

They share lots of stories, knowledge, and culture. I wish more people experience staying here. They have many recommendations for the region.

Featuring an open-air bath, Kameya Hotel is located in the Yunohama Onsen district of Tsuruoka, only 3.5 km from Kamo Aquarium. This ryokan provides free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. Guests can use the hot spring bath and the public bath, or enjoy sea views. Amazing Hotel, even though it is a very traditional and old place, the rooms are very modern and renovated with all the amenities one can think of. Onsen is good too, but very hot. The beach is literally just across the road! The rooms all have an ocean view. Staff is extremely friendly and breakfast is also great. Just watch out to book dinner if possible, as there are not many options to eat around town if you don’t want to take the car.
